Description

The project was developed as a response to the lack of a rehabilitation centre for victims of domestic violence in Vaslui County. Currently there is only one center on county level, in the town of Barlad, that provides limited services. There is an urgent need for another centre in order to provide complete services, given that the local statistics about domestic violence are worrying. The objective of the project is to set up a recovery centre for victims of domestic violence in the town of Vaslui and to raise awareness of the established facilities among the population of Vaslui County. Therefore the project envisages setting up a recovery centre and providing social services to the victims, but also promoting the newly developed services by carrying out an awareness campaign. The target group consists of women and children, victims of domestic violence, including Roma.

Summary of project results

The project arose from the need to address the widely spread phenomenon of domestic violence at the level of the County of Vaslui. Thus, the Moldavian region (the Eastern part of Romania), especially Vaslui County, appears in several studies conducted in Romania as an area where poverty is aggregated in real rural and urban concentrations ("poverty pockets"). Furthermore, the low standard of living of most families, unemployment and lack of cultural preoccupations are factors favoring abuse at multiple levels. In this context, the project promoted by General Directorate of Social Assistance and Child Protection Vaslui aimed at setting up a recovery center for the victims of domestic violence in the city of Vaslui and promoting the established facilities among the population of Vaslui County. Thus, the following outputs were delivered resulting from the main activities of the project: • Building, setting up and endowing a recovery center in the above mentioned city; • Providing specialized services for 13 victims within the newly build and set up center: hosting, care, psychological counselling, social and legal assistance, etc. Out of the 13 victims benefiting of specialized services, 7 persons were of Roma origin. • Providing online counselling services for 20 people, by means of an online platform , “the Anonymous resource center” functioning on the Facebook platform; • an awareness campaign for promoting the specialized services provided by the center in Vaslui carried out: indoor activities consisting in 3 workshops for 58 specialists in the field of domestic violence organised; outdoor activities consisting in dissemination of visibility materials in 86 villages and cities from Vaslui county.
