Description

Through its mission and vision “1 Decembrie 1918” the University of Alba Iulia seeks to create a collaborative and proactive culture and environment. The institution is constantly seeking to increase the quality of teaching and research activities available and, in line with its strategies, the exchange of academic staff and researchers to higher education and research institutions abroad. The project is aimed at maintaining and increasing the institution's cooperation abroad, with the goal of receiving incoming students and staff from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and Nesna College, in order to facilitate an exchange of best practices and ensure continued quality in higher education and research. The target groups are both students and staff (covering the areas of Language and literature, Economics and Social sciences, Computer Science, bachelor’s and master’s degree).

Summary of project results

The EEA mobility project between Romanian and Norwegian university institutions was needed in order to ensure that students and staff benefit from academic mobility. The objective was to ensure that staff and students benefit from the opportunity to study, teach and train within the Norwegian educational system. The impact was positive, as students’ and staff interest in the EEA programme has since increased. The University of Alba Iulia (UAB) arranged for two outgoing student mobilities in the field of Languages and Linguistics and two staff mobilities (one for teaching Computer Sciences at Nesna University College and one for training at NTNU) to the Norwegian donor project partners. In addition, UAB organised one incoming staff mobility from Norway for teaching Mathematics. The student mobilities resulted in better academic cooperation, increased language skills and intercultural competences, improved chances of employment, and increased suitability for mobile labor markets. Meanwhile, the teaching mobilities strengthened academic cooperation between the involved institutions and provided an exchange of best practices. The staff training contributed to an exchange of best practices. The beneficiaries were involved in dissemination activities, selection, and exploitation of results. The main benefit was for the other staff and students who will further benefit from the programme. The Norwegian partners acquired a better understanding of the Romanian educational system. The results obtained will be sustained through continued cooperation between our institution and the Norwegian ones.

Summary of bilateral results

The experience of studying in Norway was an important part of the professional development of UAB students, whom have obtained excellent results. The training mobility of one member of UAB staff at NTNU Trondheim led to an improvement in the way the UAB Centre for International Relations works, in terms of new procedures for promoting the benefits of mobilities and organizing them. As for the teaching mobility that took place at Nesna University College, it brought both the advantage of exchanging good practices in the field of education as well as a strengthened institutional partnership in the field of Mathematics and Computer Science. UAB has insured the continuation of the cooperation in the fields of Modern Languages and Social Sciences with NTNU Trondheim, and together they have decided to expand it for future projects for the field of History. The partnership has established an expansion for placement mobilities for students, incoming and outgoing for Computer Science, Phiolology and Education.
