Description

CLASSICS FOR PLEASURE is a high class event designed by ELITE ART Club UNESCO with a unique concept - Everybody’s Music: classical music - chamber music, symphonic and religious, opera, operetta and a concert Proms of Delight, renowned artists from Romania and abroad and young artists, winners of the international conducting contest. The objectives of the project are 1. To promote Romania as a professional cultural nucleon in the musical area at the highest standards, competitive with the cultural programs from the whole world by enlarging the possibilities of developing a series of diverse activities in the artistic and cultural field, 2. To attract and consolidate the interest of the public for culture, in particular for classical music, 3. To raise awareness of the large public regarding the benefits of the classical music, in all it’s diversity.

Summary of project results

The project was needed in order to develop the cultural market in Romania and create a new audience for classical music concerts. Compared to other countries in the European Union, Romania has a very poor offer when it comes to activities dedicated to classical music. The high costs of tickets, the low income average in Romania and the prejudice regarding classical music – which is generally seen as an elitist pastime and perceived as being incomprehensible due to its difficulty – make it very difficult to develop new audiences. The Classics for Pleasure Festival is the only festival in Romania which is dedicated exclusively to classical music and which grants free admittance to all the events. All the project objectives have been achieved, this year’s edition having successfully promoted Romania as a cultural nucleon, attracted the interest of the wide public for classical music and raised awareness regarding the benefits of classical music. The main deliverables produced within the project were 1 classical music festival, 4 big classical music concerts, 2 concerts in the most representative church in Sibiu, 1 classical music concert for children, reunited 404 artists, 7 live transmissions, 8.000 people who participated directly, nearly 12.000 livestream views, 1 visual arts exhibit which featured 51 works and involved 6 artists, 1 press conference which was aired live on Facebook, 1 conference regarding opera music which brought together 3 important cultural figures and featured an information seminar, 1 art session for adults which featured a classical music concert and an information seminar, 1 art session for children, 1 post-event brochure which was distributed to media partners, to the public which participated in the conferences and the White Night of Art Galleries and 10 post-event movies. The main beneficiaries of the project were the public, the artists, the partners and the city of Sibiu. The public had free access to 7 concerts, 1 exhibit, 1 conference and 2 art sessions and gained new knowledge regarding classical music. The public had the opportunity of watching the concerts live on the internet, free of charge and without creating an account. The artists had the opportunity of participating in an event which was broadcasted internationally, travel internationally and engage in networking.
