Description

In Project promoter’s opinion, the show responds to the need of every European citizen to experience, by viewing an on-stage production, the awareness of the resemblances between cultures that are apparently different, but deeply interconnected as concerns the rhythm, the music and the dance. Dance is an art representing national cultural identity. It occurs too often, however, that individual traditional dance techniques are isolated and traditional cultural acts of one nation are separated from those of others. The Irish Way project “Saint Patrick and Friends”, an Irish-fusion show, is meant to start from but go beyond pure Celtic tradition, creating a unique experience of dialogue between traditional Irish technique and various dance and musical languages, all in a contemporary approach. Touring this show around Romania (and, in the future, in other European States), would help bring the show closer to its target-groups, which are creators, artists and cultural experts as well as local, ethnic and cultural communities of the destination areas. The geographic target of the project are: Bucureşti, Iaşi, Cluj, Timişoara, Sibiu and Bacău. Six stagings of the show, one event in Bucharest and a tour in 5 cities in the country will be the main project outputs. The target groups of the project are on the one hand creators, artists (dancers, choreographers, musicians) and experts cultural (dance critics, ethnologists), and, on the other hand, local communities in areas of destination of the designed tour (local communities from all major geographical areas).

Summary of project results

In Project promoter’s opinion, the show responds to the need of every European citizen to experience, by viewing an on-stage production, the awareness of the resemblances between cultures that are apparently different, but deeply interconnected as concerns the rhythm, the music and the dance. Put into the scene for the first time in 2014, Saint Patrick and Friends tour is set on the idea of interculturality and unity within dance. Reinvented in 2015, the new choreography brings to the scene dance elements specific to each culture. Though based on the Irish dance, the show aims at mixing specific elements of flamenco and Romanian folk dance, creating a unique experience of dialogue between traditional Irish technique and various dance and musical languages, all in a contemporary approach. Within the project were achieved: 35 artists benefited from increased national mobility for artists; 7 stage stays in the country - 2 stage performances at Tirgu Ocna and one in Bacau, Iasi, Jupiter, Constanta, Sibiu and Bucharest; reached an audience of about 1200 spectators. Touring this show around Romania would help bring the show closer to its target-groups, which are creators, artists and cultural experts as well as local, ethnic and cultural communities of the destination areas.
