Description

Based on identified needs, the aim of the project is to promote tolerance and cultural diversity through theatre plays addressed at children from rural areas in Bihor County. To achieve this aim, the project will carry out preparations, during a period of three months, of a theatre play with puppets and marionettes, which will be addressed at children aged between 5 and 10, and have a duration of a maximum 50 minutes. The project will incorporate in the play cultural elements with Roma characteristic, namely the music of the play. It will further organise five performances in rural communities for a minimum 50 children in each location during a period of 5 months. Finally, the project will be organising five workshops on promoting interethnic tolerance thorough theatre, one after each performance, with a minimum 10 children participating.

Summary of project results

The project was based on several needs observed in Romania. First, the access of children from rural areas to culture, namely to theatre plays is much lower compared to urban areas. Considering the cultural and educational impact of such access, it may state that these children are underprivileged in this regard. The NGO sector with activity in cultural field is also less developed compared to other sectors, and consequently their impact at rural level is lower. Thirdly, Romanians in general are still less tolerant then other Europeans especially considering rroma population. This is linked to awareness of cultural diversity and openness to intercultural dialogue. The main results of the project were one theatre play “Ginger bread house” produced within the project, one soundtrack with rroma specific for the play, one workshop for children promoting intercultural tolerance, six representations of the play in six rural communities, for a total of 516 children, six workshops organized in six rural communities, for a total of 99 children The representations of the “Ginger bread house” play in 6 rural communities from Bihor county (all communities in which there are rarely organized similar shows) for a total of 561 children contributed to promote tolerance to the most receptive and also vulnerable category of people in this matter: children; all 99 children participating at the workshops promoting interethnic tolerance, conducted by actors, raised awareness for this problem. Also, the promoting of the specific Roma musical culture by composing the soundtrack themes Roma by Roma musicians contributed to raise tolerance among the people. D’ART Cultural Association gained relevant experience in the area and broadened its portfolio of activities.
