Description

Gheorghe Dima "International Music Competition is a project that needs young performers musicians to assert themselves, to relate consciously within international artistic context and develop continuously. However, the project offers to young musicians the opportunity to meet and interact with international artists, members of the jury, the great names of world music. This creates the opportunity to establish a working relationship with a certain teacher / artist, designed to increase the performance of the young musician. Therefore, participation in the competition is not unique directed the desire of winning a prize, but often, the need to establish links, contacts, to have the opportunity to address to a teacher known in the art, this meeting is recognized for the positive impact post-contest on the life of the student. With an impressive history confirmed by its last two editions, the Gheorghe Dima Music Competition continues to be one of the most important music competitions in Romania. The project aims at increasing the quality of music competitions in Romania and at providing an competitive platform for young musicians with an international standard. The project will also provide them with the opportunity to compete with high-level performance standards before an internationally renowned jury. The expected results of the project are increased intercultural dialogue, promoting education through art among a wider audience, and increasing international mobility for artists and artworks. The target groups are young (under 35) musicians (flute and clarinet players) in Romania and abroad, students and teaching staff in musical institutions in Romania and abroad, Romanian composers whose works are included in the competition’s repertoire, the audience in Cluj.

Summary of project results

Relevant music competitions are sparse in Romania, while young musicians development relies greatly on the correct appraisal and accurate performance standards. The project aimed at increasing the quality of music competitions in Romania and at providing an international level competitional platform for young musicians, as well as providing them with the opportunity of comparing to high-level performance standard before an internationally renowned jury. Within the project the following outputs were delivered: 8 international musicians in the jury, 3 Romanian musicians in the jury, 8 members of the jury, all international famed personalities playing in the opening gala concert, 121 young musicians, 2 gala concerts, 47 musicians of the Transylvania Philharmonic Orchestra accompanying the 2 gala concerts and the competition final round, 18 masterclasses held by the members of the jury, 6 competition round open for public (3 for each instrument), 6 days of musical instruments exhibition, 1 shop for repair of instruments free of charge for all participants of the competition, 3 young musicians, winners of the competition, playing in the final concert, 4 musical pieces by Romanian composers in the musical program of the concerts and competition, 48 music pieces by famous international composers presented in the program of the concerts and competition, 1200 audience to the concerts. The Gheorghe Dima International Music Competition as a project achieved a rise in artists' international mobility, supporting intercultural dialogue and promoting education through art among the wide audience. During the 6 days competition, 121 young musicians, flute and clarinet players from all over the world (Poland, Italy, Turkey, Germany, Israel, Hungary, Serbia, South Korea, USA, Taiwan, France, Austria, Netherlands, Greece, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Finland, Russia, Belgium, Czech Republic , China, Swiss, Brazil, Japan, Venezuela, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Columbia, Australia), gathered in the city of Cluj-Napoca, to participate in the competition, to learn from each other and from professional renowned players and to make themselves known in their artistic field. The main beneficiaries of the project are the participants in the competition. On artistic ground the participants have had the opportunity to work with 4 or 5 internationally renowned musicians, coming from different musical schools.
