Description

The project aims at creating and equipping a theatre structure to produce cultural activities towards promoting the identity of the Lipovans, Roma and Turkish communities of Dobrudja by the method of puppet theatre aimed at stimulating a deeper understanding of cultural diversity and consolidating intercultural dialogue, including the knowledge of the minorities' culture. The project helps to fight against preconceptions and discrimination by raising awareness about these communities and by promoting the European Dobrudjan identity. Audiences' knowledge is stimulated by documenting cultural history and strengthening of the intercultural dialogue regarding the European Dobrudjan identity by developing 3 thematic brochures “Yesterday and today” about the Lipovans, Roma and Turkish communities of Dobrudja. The target group consists of 15 high school students from the City of Tulcea, aged between 14 and 20 years old and from the villages of Sarichioi, Ciucurova, Babadag) 2328 Russian Lipovans (from Sarichioi), 293 people from the Roma community (from Ciucurova) 395 Turkish citizens (from Babadag) and 11094 people from these three places (the rest of the inhabitants).

Summary of project results

As the promoter of the project stated after conducting local investigations, the Romanians have a strong positive attitude face to Russian-Lipovans, a weaker positive attitude towards the Tatars, Turks, Armenians, Greeks and a very weak positive attitude towards the Roma. The activities came to support a better understanding within a cultural diverse space, with an accent on strengthening the intercultural dialogue. The main deliverables produced were a brochure Yesterday and Today, about the Turks, Russian Lipovans and Roma from Dobrudjha, an ethnicity map of potential communities of majority of Russian Lipovans, Roma and Turks, 6 biographic profiles of a Russian, Lipovan puppet, 6 biographic profiles of a Turkish puppet, 6 biographic profiles of a Roma puppet, 18 „passports” for the puppets, 28 trained young people, 10 trained new specialists, 3 theatre shows about the selected ethnics, 1 collection of puppets show scripts, 1 final event, 1 cultural representation at the Cultural Theatre Jean Bart in Tulcea, 1 blog implemented - Dobrudjhan Diversity for European Community, during the activities of visual identity. The project has offered a consolidation of the understanding regarding the cultural diversity of the European Dobrudjha, expanding the area of cultural audience by educating the participants with regard to the Dobrudjhan minorities. The initiative proposed an innovative socio-educational and cultural service, in which both the civil society (through the NGO participation and the parents) and public institutions came in support for the communities of the Russian Lipovans, the Roma and the Turks. Identifying some issues and specific challenges of the Dobrudjhan Culture, have provided the scripts of the brochures containing the collection of theatre shows, the script of the multicultural puppets theatre representation motivated by the dialogue between these ethnic minorities. Increasing the number of educated persons, in respect with the cultural heritage and the identity of the Russian Lipovans, Roma and Turks from Dobrudjha by the art method of puppets theatre, development of the creativity and expressivity of the members of the involved communities, 28 high school volunteer students have developed artistic and creative abilities and gained the awareness of what it means to be a European Dobrudjhan citizen, acquiring a tolerant behavior towards the ethnic European dobrudjhan diversity of the Roma, Lipovans and Turks.
