Description

The project identifies and internationally promotes the cultural multi-ethnic intangible heritage of Maramures. The target groups are students from the two partner universities, community members involved in the project and the local population of Northern Iceland and the ethnic communities from Maramures (Hungarians, Germans, Ukrainians, and Roma). The project expects to contribute to an improved image of the two involved communities, Icelandic and Romanian and to the revitalisation and conservation of the two ethnographic areas. It promotes and stimulates interest in multi-ethnic traditions and specific communities involved in the project including the Roma. The results are: a cultural tourist information center for multie-thnic minorities, 100 multi-ethnic members of the communities involved in the program, 24 volunteers involved in the collection of ethnographic material, 3 new artistic groups created, 10 members selected to be trained to transfer knowledge and to revive the cultural heritage, 5 folk performances, 3 thematic exhibitions, a book published in 500 copies, two trips from Iceland to Romania (8 Icelandic people) and one trip from Romania to Iceland with a group of 17 people, 2000 DVDs. The University of Akureyri (Iceland) is the donor project partner in this project and it will be involved in project management and the setting up of the project management team. The University is also involved in the cultural exchange between both countries involved in this project.

Summary of project results

The project aimed to enhance the intercultural dialogue and to promote the local culture of Maramures, Romania and Iceland, by improving the mutual knowledge of the people from the two cultural spaces. The project promoter achieved the following activities and outcomes: a group of 17 artists and members of the implementation team participated to the cultural exchange, travelling abroad ; Ethnographical exhibitions organised within the project; two exhibition of wood objects, pottery, ceramics and fabrics ;one exhibition adapted for blind people; the constitution of 3 artistic groups was facilitated, groups including representatives of Roma, Hungarians and Romanians, 36 artistic rehearsals were organised and 24 Roma folk costumes (12 female pieces and 12 male pieces) were delivered to be used for future shows; 10 young people were trained in performing folk choreography arts; 44 volunteers trained and prepared for fieldwork research of ethnography and folklore; 100 members involved in promoting multi-ethnic culture of 19 months programme, a round table with 30 participants. Promotion materials were printed and disseminated: leaflets; posters, banners-3 pieces; banners , pocket folders, brochures about Maramures in the European cultural heritage, a multicultural portal: www.maramuresmulticultural.ro; a book with the title: "The Access of the larger audience to the museum heritage" - printed in 500 pieces and distributed for the cultural institutions and relevant actors; 5000 DVD with elements of folk dance, vocal-instrumental folklore, traditions and traditional crafts collected from the field research, There were created the premises for a better mutual knowledge between the beneficiaries of the project, throughout the organization of: two visits to Romania of the Iceland partner, inauguration of a Cultural Tourist Information Center , a facilitated access of the general public to intangible heritage of ethnic and cultural minorities, including persons with disabilities, by events and production of materials about minorities and on the theme of cultural accessibility, two performances in Romania, six performance in Iceland as follows: Reykjavik, School of Siglo, School of Husavik, - Botanic Garden, Botanic Garden, outdoor performance in Akureyry, Performance at the Art Museum.

Summary of bilateral results

There has been a visit to Iceland of 17 people, a joint group of three formed bands and members of the implementation team; two trips to Romania of partner from Iceland; two people at the start of the project and 6 people at the final show and round table. There were 8 traditional music and dance performances, which included the 3 artistic groups formed in the project, for the local public. The following shows were held: 2in Romania and 6 in Iceland as follows: Reykjavik, Siglo School, Husavik School, Akureiry Botanical Garden, a Romanian moment at the "Opening Ceremony of the VACA Festival" in Iceland, Outdoor Show Akureyry Central Park, Akureiry Art Museum.
