Description

The project promotes multiculturalism in the micro-region by organising a festival at micro-regional level developed and promoted in a public partnership between the City Hall Beius, culture local institutions and local schools (involving 5,000 students who are in schools and kindergarten from Beius). Over 350 creators and artists will take part in the Regional Festival of Folk Traditions which lasts 3 days and expects to attract 10.000 visitors. The project raises public awareness about local cultural history, popular culture, crafts and traditions of the Roma population. The project develops educational material containing data collected in the field (writing, photos, and videos) in the form of written and electronic material. The festival organised within the project includes music, visual arts, crafts, educational contests for children and information workshops about the local culture and traditions. Data collected through research and survey of craftsmen is included in the material developed as a result of this project.

Summary of project results

Local authorities in Beiuș face a decreasing involvement and interest of teenagers and pupils in cultural activities and cultural values. One of the biggest challenges of local government in the city of Beius is to maintain and promote the spirit of culture and the project implementation was based on issues identified by the project partners, namely that the 5,000 pupils who study in schools of the municipality not knowledgeable about the traditions and culture of local artisans in 24 towns that form the micro-region Tara Beiusului are older and “endangered” because there is no evidence of the work of them. The public awareness at local communities was achieved by participation of children and teenagers to events and other activities organized during the project lifetime. The deliverables within the project were2 shows were produced, 1 regional festival of folk traditions, visits to local craft workers were organized for pupils, printed brochures were realized and one web-page. These brochures which carried a message representing local history were awarded to youth/students participating in cultural events The 120.000 inhabitants in the area were informed about the project and its results, the 5000 pupils in local schools were directly involved in project activities and in direct contact with local traditional craft workers.
