Description

The objective of the project “CCS Education Centre” is to support the development of the CSS (Carbon Capture and Storage) technology in Poland, both in the area of training and education. The primary objective of the project shall be implemented through the following activities, targeting a broad spectre of recipients - students Ph.D. candidates, employees of industry, territorial self-governments, local communities: • exchange of views and experiences and presentation of research results related to the development and implementation of CCS technology in Poland (organisation of CCS Education Centre opening conference); • facilitating a broad discussion on the issue of CCS technology implementation in Poland (organisation of technical workshops for representatives of self-governments and business); • intensive education of future engineering staff (organisation of a Summer School for students and Ph.D. candidates). Furthermore, it is a planned to develop a postgraduate studies curriculum with the use of modern teaching methods, such as tutoring or e-learning and a 2nd cycle studies curriculum at the power industry faculty with a practical profile. Expected results: • a postgraduate studies curriculum with the use of modern teaching methods: tutoring or e-learning • a 2nd cycle studies curriculum at the power industry faculty with a practical profile • a monograph • CCS Education Centre opening seminar shall target a broad spectre of audiences: representatives of science, industry, government administration and young disciples of science • technical workshops - 20 representatives of industry and self-government • Summer Schools - 30 students and 20 Ph.D. candidates

Summary of project results

This project was a response to the identified lack of highly qualified staff in CCS area in Poland. All main objectives of the project were achieved, i.e.: (1) Skilled personnel training in CCS; (2) Improving public awareness and support of citizens in shaping their opinions and knowledge about CCS; and (3) Increased awareness and strengthened knowledge base on the CCS and climate change among students through post-graduate studies offer and Energy second degree, which is a continuation of Energy first degree –a practical profile implemented by Czestochowa University of Technology. The project was addressed to the academic community and the public. All activities planned in the project, i.e. technical workshops for representatives of industry and local government, seminar on the Development of CCS in Poland - CCS Educational Center opening Seminar, summer schools for students and PhD students, social debate on ”Should I be afraid of climate change and CCS technology”, educational Centre of CCS Open Day, postgraduate study program-use of modern teaching methods: tutoring, e-learning, and preparation of study program for Energy second degree carried out. Additionally, a brochure on CCS Educational Center was published, a website was launched, and a post-seminar monograph was elaborated.
