Description

According to research, more than 80% of companies generates a negative impact on the environment, with most of them not recognizing their impacts (Ecoinnovation in Poland Current state, barriers to development, support capabilities, IBS'12). There are currently no solutions available on the market responding to this challenge in a satisfying manner. There is a need to develop innovations, technologies and knowledge on production processes taking environmental aspects into consideration. One solution is to educate staff and implement sustainable development in organizations. The main objective of the project is to adapt to the needs of the economy in a curriculum at Pozanan University of Economics. The scientific staff working in the area of sustainable development in science and business will develop an engineering study program which will be establish at the University. The main objective will be achieved by the acquisition of knowledge and practical skills to apply innovation and environmental technologies in organizations. The result will be an innovative curriculum and disseminating publications, and green process and product management.

Summary of project results

The main goal of project was the creation of a new field of study Product & Process Management (PPM) at Poznań University of Economics and Business (PUEB) in the academic year 2015/16. The project realization included the following results: (1) the preparation of complete documentation for the implemented PPM field of study including PPM characteristics and programme, description of its educational areas, 35 syllabuses for obligatory courses, 40 syllabuses for faculty, technical and specialized courses, complete materials for students for obligatory courses; (2) promotion and recruitment for the PPM field of study – 13 students from abroad and Poland attended the first two semesters of classes, 570 hours of classes in English were performed (285h of lectures and 285h of exercises) and an additional 60 hours of intensive English course for PPM students for which students gained 60 ECTS credits; (3) organization of 3 conferences and publications of abstract books associated with them: a scientific, didactic, project opening conference (over 250 participants) and a scientific, project closing conference (over 250 participants) – both entitled “Environment & Technology in Business”, with Polish and foreign speakers (from Iceland and Norway); as well as a student environmental conference; (4) visit of the project team members to the University of Iceland (Reykjavik) and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (Trondheim) and attendance in workshops and consultations conducted by the experts engaged in the project; (5) purchase of the educational equipment in value ca. 18 600 euro, intended for use during the laboratory classes in PPM courses; (6) visit at the PUEB by the foreign experts engaged in the project (from Norway and Iceland) and lecturing a 1-day seminars for PPM students - Annik Magerholm Fet and Lara Johannsdottir ; (7) PPM students’ visitation in industrial companies that have implemented solutions in the field of environmental management and sustainable development: Phillips Lighting Poland, Volkswagen Poznań Plant, Solaris Bus & Coach, Aquanet sewage treatment plant; (8) Publication of 2 monographs in English entitled “Process & Product Management – Economic & Environmental Aspects in Business” and “Process & Product Management – Environment & Technology in Business”.
