Description

The project comes as a response to the need to adjust the teaching process at Poznan School of Banking (WSB) and University of Akureyri (UoA) by addressing the expectations of today’s students–the teaching should be interactive and rely on ICT methods and tools to allow distance learning. Therefore, the project is to tighten cooperation between WSB and UoA and allow them to exchange knowledge, experience and innovation regarding learning-outcome-driven teaching methodologies aided with ICT tools which support synchronous teaching and mobile technologies. The outcomes will allow both institutions to enhance their education by incorporating state-of-the-art technologies and methodology into teaching. This will directly benefit the students (help in setting up an effective working environment which fosters learning),the teachers (who will receive tools and applications offering access to advanced teaching methods) and ultimately both institutions (improved quality of education).

Summary of project results

The project comes as a response to the need to adjust the teaching process at WSB University of Poznań and University of Akureyri by addressing the expectations of today’s students – the teaching should be interactive and rely on ICT methods and tools to allow distance learning. Therefore, the project was to tighten cooperation between WSB and UoA and allow them to exchange knowledge, experience and innovation regarding learning-outcome-driven teaching methodologies aided with ICT tools which support synchronous teaching and mobile technologies. Once jointly developed by WSB and UoA, the outcomes will allow both institutions to enhance their education by incorporating state-of-the-art technologies and methodology into teaching. This directly benefited the students (help in setting up an effective working environment which fosters learning), the teachers (who will receive tools and applications offering access to advanced teaching methods) and ultimately both institutions (improved quality of education). The results of the project are: development of methodology and technology of synchronous teaching and teaching based on mobile learning; training of the teaching staff of the Poznań School of Banking in synchronous teaching and teaching based on mobile learning; creation of layout for mobile devices; development of teaching methods based on educational effects at the Finance and Accounting field of study; creation of complete e-services at the LMS platform for 16 courses at the Finance and Accounting field of study. Each of them contains a course description, class scenario, manual for teaching staff, student work sheet – outcome developed by WSB Finance and Accounting lecturers.

Summary of bilateral results

The donor partner benefited from the Polish partner in the area of designing internet service for courses that include class scenarios for teaching staff, course descriptions for teaching staff and students. Right now, as the partner reports, these solutions are being implemented. The local authorities together with University of Akureyri created a network of 8 education centers where students participate in online classes (in the majority of cases classes broadcast from Akureyri). The education centers enable students to meet for project purposes. In order to deliver classes in a synchronous mode (broadcast of lectures) University of Akureyri has 12 audiovisual classrooms equipped with appropriate software. All of it is supported by a Reykjavik-based system financed through public funding. The system consists of a streaming server, repository of video materials, and broadcast reservation system. The partnership has strengthened bilateral relations. A tight collaboration between instructional design departments of both institutions has been established. There is a constant exchange of experience between Deans of the Poznan School of Banking and The School of Business and Science University of Akureyri as regards organization of education.
