Description

There is a need for continuous education of construction engineers and managers at the Warsaw University of Technology. This was confirmed in the LdV project and by contact with construction companies from Poland and EU. This project is foreseen to create innovative courses on MOODLE platform (open-source learning) in the area of Risk and Value Management in Construction. The operational goals are increasing the attractiveness of the teaching process and raising the qualifications of construction companies personnel. The detailed goals are the preparation of the courses at the internet platform in Polish and English. The project partners, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and Reykjavik University in Iceland, will be responsible for content related issues, whilst Polish partner will assure participation of construction companies representatives to adjust the courses for the industry's needs. The partners' needs will be assured by wider introduction of innovative teaching methods.

Summary of project results

The need for education in the area of value management and risk managementhas beenconfirmed in numerous research works and contacts with Polish and European construction companies by Warsaw University of Technology since 1998 and were also agreed with Icelandic and Norwegian Partners, who were planning to introduce the prepared courses to their teaching programmes. The operational objective of the project was to facilitate qualifications of construction personnel managing construction infrastructure projects financed by UE. Detailed objectives were: preparation of the internet platform for courses in the area of Value and Risk Management in Construction in Polish and English, together with didactic materials and teaching methodology. The project also influenced development of teaching programmes in Polish and English languages. Both the operational objective of the project, as well as the detailed objectives have been achieved by fully developing of learning courses via the Internet in the field of Value Management in Construction and Risk Management in Construction. The participants in the questionnaire assessed the project as a very useful tool that also meets current expectations of the construction sector and the higher education (e.g. civil engineering faculties) at numerous presentations and dissemination seminars. The outcome of the project was the creation of innovative MOODLE courses in the area of Risk and Value Management in Construction with materials for students and tutors, tests, solution to tests, platform guide and dissemination during the project and after competition of the project. The outcome has been fully achieved and the courses are available at the http://fss.il.pw.edu.pl/moodle/. The project partnerships achieved among others: (1) contacts with construction companies from PL and EU; (2) innovative courses on MOODLE platform in the area of Risk and Value Management in Construction; (3) increase in social and economical cohesion of EOG; (4) introduction of innovative teaching methods; (5) increase in the teaching process attractiveness and raising qualifications of construction companies personnel.
