Description

In order to become a modern and internationally recognized university, internationalization and international cooperation has become an integral part of higher education and research and winds through the planning and providing of study process, scientific activities and administrative work. The program “Research and Scholarships” and wherewith both program activities corresponds to the long term development guidelines of LLU and the program counts as more than eligible instrument to achieve the set strategic aims. The activity “Scholarship” will foster the development of human resources and also to secure the synergy between both activities of the program. The activity “Scholarship” corresponds to project promoters` and project partners’ strategic guidelines and will help to achieve the set strategic aims. It is prospected, that with help of project, in addition to direct results (stimulated bilateral cooperation and mobility, improved academic knowledge and skills) an impact through the Research component will be brought and that indirect results will be achieved, that will leave an additional impact: - on participants: improved informal skills, intercultural experience, ability to look on a traditional and conventional question from a different point of view, improved foreign language skills, motivation to work in an international environment and to initiate new international activities by raising the competitiveness of the university; - on university: improved collaboration between partner-institutions, mutual trust, popularization of internationalisation activities, raising of competitiveness, recognition; - on society: promotion of tolerance of other cultures, integration in common European space.

Summary of project results

This project was implemented to foster the internationalization and competitiveness of LLU in Latvia and internationally and partner institution secured the support functions. The program "Research and Scholarships" corresponds to the long term development guidelines of LLU and is helping not only to develop human resources, but also to strengthen the structure of organisation and to mark out collaboration possibilities between partners in the future. All the planned project activities were implemented (all 4 academic staff mobilities were implemented). Project direct results: - new opportunities for further cooperation in research that integrate natural resource management and assessment in forest ecosystems in the countries of Nordic-Baltic region; - encouraged integration of different proposals of research projects towards common research interests according to plans of long-term cooperation of ecosystem services and natural resource management in forest ecosystems; - established common research interests (in natural resource and wildlife management) for collaboration in the future. There is a strong encouragement for future collaboration within research projects, meetings and mobility opportunities; -stimulated bilateral cooperation and mobility between partner institutions, personal contacts. Project indirect results: - improved collaboration between partner-institutions, mutual trust, popularization of internationalization activities and raising of competitiveness. There were no derogations from the schedule while realising project activities. With help of the project, in addition to direct results (stimulated bilateral cooperation and mobility, improved academic knowledge and skills, new collaboration ties etc.) also an additional impact with help of indirect results have been achieved: -on participants: improved informal skills, intercultural experience, ability to look on a traditional and conventional question from a different point of view, improved foreign language skills, motivation to work in an international environment and to initiate new international activities by raising the competitiveness of the university; - on university: improved collaboration between partner-institutions, mutual trust, popularization of internationalisation activities, raising of competitiveness, recognition; - on society: promotion of tolerance of other cultures, awareness of Europeness and integration in common European space.

Summary of bilateral results

Project helped stimulate bilateral cooperation and mobility between partner institutions (4 academic staff mobilities were implemented), improved collaboration between partner-institutions, mutual trust, popularization of internationalization activities and raising of competitiveness. Partnership helped achieve better results in Research projects, as well as strategic goals of both partner institutions. Bilateral collaboration also improved informal skills of the project participants, improved knowledge, gained intercultural experience, ability to look on a traditional and conventional questions from a different point of view, improved foreign language skills, motivation to work in an international environment and to initiate new international activities by raising the competitiveness of the universities.
