Description

In order to become a modern and internationally recognized university, internationalization and international cooperation has become an integral part of higher education and research and winds through the planning and providing of study process, scientific activities and administrative work. The program “Research and Scholarships” and wherewith both program activities corresponds to the long term development guidelines of LLU and the program counts as more than eligible instrument to achieve the set strategic aims. The activity “Scholarship” will foster the development of human resources and also to secure the synergy between both activities of the program. The activity “Scholarship” corresponds to project promoters` and project partners’ strategic guidelines and will help to achieve the set strategic aims. It is prospected, that with help of project, in addition to direct results (stimulated bilateral cooperation and mobility, improved academic knowledge and skills) an impact through the Research component will be brought and that indirect results will be achieved, that will leave an additional impact: - on participants: improved informal skills, intercultural experience, ability to look on a traditional and conventional question from a different point of view, improved foreign language skills, motivation to work in an international environment and to initiate new international activities by raising the competitiveness of the university; - on university: improved collaboration between partner-institutions, mutual trust, popularization of internationalisation activities, raising of competitiveness, recognition; - on society: promotion of tolerance of other cultures, integration in common European space.

Summary of project results

Internationalisation and international cooperation has become an integral part of higher education and research and winds through the planning and providing of study process, scientific activities and administrative work at Latvia University of Agriculture (LUA). During the project researchers and academic staff members visited prof. Knut Rudi laboratories and discussed possible organisation of doctoral studies in biology interdisciplinary field. Academic staff mobility resulted in founding several approaches how to integrate microbiotia experimental data into modelling tool, exchanging data about specific approach and information of microbiotia composition measurements, finding out, that linear algebra can be used not only in stoichiometric modeling but also in gene analysis fields, additional knowledge about the gut microbiotia content dynamics in infants in first years of life. New possibilities to apply modelling approach on that topic were found, new collaboration has been started in community modelling of Bifidobacteria species. A joint project proposal has been submitted.

Summary of bilateral results

During the mobility joint project proposals were made. Decision was taken to work on joint research application regarding competition of microorganisms in gut of humans and animals. This is synergistic topic for competence of both - experimenters and modellers.
