Description

The project consists of a number of exhibitions and workshops highlighting Jewish art and culture:the exhibition of works by Joseph Kuzkovski and lecture-dispute about his work by Dr.Meir Aronson, the exhibition of works by Felix Mostowizs “Memories from the past”, and presentation of his works and a public discussion with the author F. Mostowizs “National and sub-national in visual arts in New Europe”;The exhibition “Jews in Norway and Latvia. Unexpected crossings” workshop on and public lecture-dispute of the principal of OEM Dr. Sidsel Levine “Toleration and inter-cultural dialogue in Norway”;Concert of klezmer band „Urban Tunélls” as a part of 7th Jewish Culture Festival in Riga. The exhibition “Jews in Latvia”, workshop on Jewish Latvian history and culture and public lecture of a chairman of Riga Ghetto museum Rabbi Menachem Barkahan “Memorialization of the Holocaust and development of toleration and inter-cultural dialog in Latvia”;International children’s drawing contest “My family story and me”, exhibition and seminar for art teachers, psychologists and parents “A drawing of a child as a reflection of inner family world”.

Summary of project results

There was a luck of the information about the Jewish history, art and culture in Latvia and in Norway. As a result of cooperation with Norwegian partners two-way mobility and cooperation in cultural heritage, exhibitions and museum field was created in the project.4 exhibitions were organized in the project - exhibition of pictures by Joseph Kuzkovski and lecture-dispute, exhibition of pictures by Feliks Mostowizs and lecture-dispute, exhibition of photos “Jews in Norway and Latvia. Unexpected crossings” and public lecture-dispute in Latvia and exhibition of photos “Jews in Latvia” and public lecture were organized in the project. The representative from the Oslo Jewish Museum presented lecture in Latvia and representative from the Latvia presented lecture in Oslo, Norway. The exhibitions and lectures were attended by approximately 1330 persons. Concert of klezmer (Jewish folk music) band „Urban Tunélls” (Norway) was organized in Latvia and had a large interest of the local society. International children’s drawing contest “My family story and me”, exhibition and seminar for art teachers, psychologists and parents was organized in the project. The project was new and creative option for the local society to get to know Jewish history, art and culture in Latvia and Norway.

Summary of bilateral results

The cooperation with the Oslo Jewish museum helped to add the additional value to the project's results, because of the lecture from the Oslo Jewish museum. The involvement of the project partner helped to improve knowledge of the local society about the Jewish culture and history and helped to rise mutual understanding. Project was an opportunity for the beneficiary and project partner to strengthening the partnership.
