Description

NORTH Creative Network (NCN) – for open innovation and cultural exchange will be developed by project partners from Latvia, Iceland and Norway in a result of the project activities, taking place in all three countries. The project mission is to contribute towards sustainable culture development by designing and building more accessible routes into the sector of creative industries.The project will consist of 3 main activities:1) Creative WorkLabs – for developing creative scenarios on Northern 'renewable futures' – will include five art and science workshops and 'public shows' introducing the future of water, plant electricity, open source bioart and other innovations.2) Innovation Festivals – for disseminating project ideas and WorkLab results to the wider public – will feature special 'creative showcase' events as well as conference, exhibitions, live performances. 3) PR & Creative Networking – for providing the link between partners, participants and public – will also include creative apprenticeship programme, information and publicity activities. Piksel Produksjoner Ltd. and i/o/lab-Center for future arts (both in Norway) , and the Association for electronic arts 'Lorna' (Iceland) are the partners in this project.

Summary of project results

The project mission was to contribute towards sustainable culture development by designing and building more accessible routes into the sector of creative industries. The project was implemented by project partners from Latvia, Iceland and Norway and was taking place in all three countries. Project main activities was Creative WorkLabs for developing creative scenarios on Northern ‘renewable futures’, including five art and science workshops and ‘public shows’ introducing the future of water, plant electricity, open source bioart and other innovations and Innovation Festivals for disseminating project ideas and WorkLab results for wider public – features special ‘creative showcase’ events as well as conference, exhibitions, live performances. The Art-Science WorkLab and North Creative Network Meeting were organized in September 2014 in Riga (Latvia). Melting on Ice WorkLab and collaboration with Raflost Festival were organized in May 2015 in the PIKSLAVERK 2015 FESTIVAL in Reykjavik (Iceland). Art-Science Seminar and Exhibition was organized in the ARTICLE BIENNALE 2016 in March 2016 in Stavanger (Norway). North Transformative Ecologies Exhibition and Performances were held in the RIXC ART SCIENCE FESTIVAL 2015 in October – November 2015 in Riga (Latvia).The project events were attended by approximately 2750 persons. The project was a great opportunity for the project partners to work together and exchange of the knowledge and experience and to create an innovative exhibitions and seminars.The project focused on the interplay between art and science which is different from traditional art activities.

Summary of bilateral results

The bilateral cooperation with Iceland and Norway partners helped to develop partnership and to create interesting cultural and environmental art products. The project was an initiative which opens for innovation and cultural exchange between the project partners: RIXC from Latvia, Lornalab from Iceland, PIKSEL and i/o/lab from Norway. The project artists who are engaged in science, technology, ecology had great experience in cross collaborative working. The close partnership helped to reach the best results for the project.
