Summary of project results

Projects “Increasing capacity of electronic materials about climate changes in rural areas” aim was to improve information access in rural areas about impact on climate changes and its mitigation tools. Direct objective of the Project was to develop high quality electronic learning modules about climate changes and its mitigation, thus improving the information transfer between researchers and students. In order to achieve the planned results main activities were development and implementation of e-learning module for Rural engineering faculty students, other students, and for professional audience. Learning modules includes various themes related to climate change and rural areas spatial planning, main aim is to raise interest on climate change topics promoting the availability of information on climate change impacts and mitigation options. In cooperation with project partner Innovation Circle Network (Nowray)13 e-study modules are made, modules presents the role of climate change, impacts and gradually move to more serious topics, such as GHG emissions management, spatial planning, as well as public involvement in mitigating climate change. Modules will be integrated in study process in Latvia University of Agriculture. E-study modules can be found in web site www.eklimats.lv. As the result of project acivities education programme module on climate change and adaptation is developed.

Summary of bilateral results

The study visit was a part of an EEA funded project undertaken by the Latvia University of Agriculture where Innovation Circle Network is the Norwegian partner. An expert group from the Latvia University of Agriculture was visting Norway at the end of September 2015. They experienced new urban design and traditional design and landscaping in a shifting autumn weather from the sunny seaside at Arendal to the foggy hills and mountains of Telemark, as it can only be experienced in Norway. Heddal stave church from the 13th century in an September grey light became the contrast to a dynamic and sunny new urban Aker Brygge in Oslo. In Arendal the town planner Michael Fuller-Gee gave a presentation about the priniples and goals behind the town development and the new urban design. He took the group for a town walk where the many small and large city development elements could be explored. He explained how city development can be a struggle between new ideas, traditions and various commercial interests. An important goal has been to take back the waterfront for people and to put as much as possible of car parking underground.
