Description

Ukmergė district youth health statistics and health problems analysis revealed several negative trends in some health areas: sexual and reproductive health; nutrition and lack of physical activity-related diseases; mental health; injuries and accidents fields. Aim of the project – to improve the accessibility and quality of YFHCS in Ukmergė district municipality by implementing YFHCS model in accordance with the needs of Ukmergė district municipality young people by: 1) establishing and equipping YFHCS coordinating center in Ukmergė district municipality Public health bureau, which will carry out YFHCS coordinating, case management, consultation functions; 2) administrating the Youth Health Portal at municipal level; 3) adapting and applying 4 Algorithms (set of rules how to behave in different situations, solving problems) in priority areas of the YFHCS provision at municipal level; 4) developing inter-institutional cooperation and building capacity of key YFHCS providers in the municipality (health and other sectors): 1 supervision, 7 trainings; 5) applying information technologies for promoting YFHCS; 6) developing community-based (mobile) YFHCS: youth health promoting initiatives in provincial areas of the municipality; 7) providing parents education on teenagers sexuality issues and on how to speak on various sensitive topics with teenagers; 8) organizing 5 youth health promoting trainings and 3 events; 9) establishing 7- 8 publicly available free exercise machines in public space.

Summary of project results

Aim of the project – to improve the accessibility ant quality of youth-friendly health care services (YFHCS) in Ukmergė district municipality, by helping experts of health system and other sectors, and young people to orientate in diversity of provided services. During the project, the YFHCS coordinating center was established in Ukmergė District Municipality Public Health Office, which is carrying out YFHCS coordinating and case management functions. The YFHCS coordinating center was equipped with all necessary equipment and methodological tools. During the project there were organized various activities: 1) health-related activities for young people; 2) teamwork training for representatives of various organizations (which are part of the YFHCS model) on the topic how to solve youth related issues; 3) parent education about adolescent sexuality issues; 4) youth education about healthy life style and others. In addition, during the project, mobile YFHCS was developed, publicly available free exercise machines were established in public space. After implemented project, youth of Ukmergė municipality will have all necessary assistance to help to solve their problems both in direct contact with a young person (treatment, monitoring, and prevention) and indirect contact, when health issues will be addressed by making systemic, organizational, financial, legal or political decisions.
