Summary of project results

Taurage District Municipality Administration together with Pagėgiai municipality administration and Public Health Bureau of Plunge District Municipality implemented the project in order to improve and protect public health, and reduce health inequities. The work of public healthcare specialists in educational institutions is very important in order to reduce children morbidity rates and its consequences. When public healthcare specialists have all the necessary conditions and measures, it is possible to prevent or reduce the incidence of diseases such as infectious and parasitic diseases, nutritional and metabolic diseases, mental and behavioral disorders, diseases of the digestive system and others. Specialists can organize events, programs, discussions and lectures for the children on a various topics of health care, healthy lifestyle, and related topics. In 2014 healthcare offices in schools and pre-schools in Taurage, Pagegiai and Plunge districts did not meet the requirements, and the need for infrastructure development was unquestionable. The work of public healthcare specialists was limited by the lack of necessary equipment and facilities that were not adapted for their activity. During the project healthcare offices in 26 schools and 13 pre-school education institutions (20 in Tauragė District, 12 in Plunge District, 7 in Pagegiai District) in Districts of Taurage, Pagegiai and Plunge were renovated, equipped, and provided with basic and additional measures. It is expected that the project will help to improve health indicators of pre-school and school-age children, decrease the number of diseases cases, the children will get the knowledge and skills of healthy lifestyle and healthy eating. Actively working with the children, providing an interesting health care, preventive and other information, will reduce the chances of developing those diseases (such as., infectious), which, with some knowledge, you can easily prevent and reduce the incidence of these diseases.
