Summary of project results

Panevezys district municipality public health bureau together with Utena district municipality public health bureau and Administration of Moletai district municipality were together implementing the project in order to improve and protect public health, and reduce health inequities. The primary aim of this project was to improve work environment and create advantageous work conditions for public health workers in educational institutions by repairing old healthcare offices and establishing new ones with all necessary and useful tools for proper health promotion. In Lithuania in 2014, public health bureaus expanded work field and started to provide services not only for schools but for preschools as well. Due to this fact, there were no health offices at preschools. Unfortunately, situation in schools was poor too. Healthcare offices were old, partly equipped or not equipped at all. Some of them had never been repaired or were not suitable according hygiene and safety standards. Devices, tools and all inventory were old, shabby and some of them even useless. In 2014, in Moletai district, there were 12 educational institutions and only six of them had health offices. During the project, six new healthcare offices (1 at preschool) were established. In Panevezys district, there were 26 educational institutions and only 12 of them had healthcare offices. During the project, nine new health offices (4 at preschool) were established, and four offices (1 at preschool) were repaired. In Utena district, there were 25 educational institutions and 19 of them had health offices. During the project, five health offices (2 at preschool) were be repaired. In total, during the project health care offices in 33 schools and 13 pre-school education institutions in Districts of Panevezys, Moletai and Utena were renovated, equipped, and provided with basic and additional measures for proper health promotion. It is expected that the project will help to improve health indicators of pre-school and school-age children, decrease the number of deseases cases, the children will get the knowledge and skills of healthy lifestyle and healthy eating. Actively working with the children, providing an interesting health care, preventive and other information, will reduce the chances of developing those diseases (such as., infectious), which, with some knowledge, you can easily prevent and reduce the incidence of these diseases.
