Description

The project aims to preserve Lithuanian cultural heritage by creating better conditions for research and educational activities about importance of cultural heritage in Samogitia, the northwestern region of Lithuania. Despite a high demand for preservation services in the region, activities performed by the Telšiai branch of Vilnius academy of Arts are very limited due to the lack of essential and special equipment. During the implementation of the project, major repair works will be performed, the necessary equipment (3D scanning system, laser distance meter, hardware and software, restoration equipment) installed and furniture acquired. This will allow launching the Research and Development Centre to perform innovative non-destructive research, variety of restoration and conservation works, provide consultations. The partner institution will ensure that the public is well informed about the new facilities to be introduced and the need to protect cultural heritage by organizing numerous informational (29) and educational (10) events across the region. The project contributes to reducing economic and social disparities by establishing the centre in a region, which will generate income, provide easily accessible services and create four new jobs.

Summary of project results

During the implementation of the Project, the repairing of the building in Telšiai ( address - Kęstučio str.3-2, Telšiai) was performed, and 297,26 m2 space was reconditioned. Four cultural heritage specialists were employed in the Research and Development Centre. During the project specialists provided more than 225 consultations to individuals and representatives of museums and other organizations. Also, they performed 60 analysis and researches of different cultural heritage topics. In order to inform the museums, manors, municipalities and the society about the Project, 29 informational events were organized all over Samogitia. Also, as to educate the society to save the cultural heritage 10 educational events were organized in the new Research and Development Centre. Project's objectives and all planned results were achieved. The Research and Development Centre will continue its' work not less than 5 years after the end of the project - 4 specialists will continue their work in the Centre, purchased equipment will be used in future activities.
