In Skuodas an open youth space (OYS) has been established in a former cinema theater. However due to inappropriate indoor conditions, lack of equipment and missing competences of employees the OYS can’t meet the needs of youth and solve their problems. The project partner Rokiskis Open Youth Centre (OYC) is using premises in Ziobiskis village, which are suitable for various social activities, but there are no equipment and human resources. This project will adapt the premises of Skuodas former cinema theater space to the OYS, and develop various activities and mobile services to youth at risk in the region. The project will also provide the needed equipment and human resources in premises in Ziobiskis village and ensure the development of the services of Rokiskis OYC in the region. The project will thus ensure that both youth centers will be suitable environments and have trained employees for open work with youth, and especially with youth at risk. Having actively working OYCs in both of the regions mentioned above will lead to a decrease in youth addictions and criminality and an increase in the self-confidence of young people at risk.
Summary of project results
An open youth space (OYS) has been established in a former cinema theater in Skuodas. However due to inappropriate indoor conditions, lack of equipment and missing competences of employees the OYS couldn’t meet the needs of youth and solve their problems. The project partner Rokiškis Open Youth Centre (OYC) is using premises in Žiobiškis village, which were suitable for various social activities, but there were no equipment and human resources. This project adapted the premises of Skuodas former cinema theater space to the OYS, and developed various activities and mobile services to youth at risk in the region. The needed equipment and human resources in premises in Žiobiškis village were provided and the development of the services of Rokiškis OYC in the region was ensured. Thanks to the project both OYC have suitable environment and employees for open work with youth, especially with youth at risk. Skuodas OYC now can involve twice bigger audience of young people. Development of Skuodas and Rokiškis OYC encouraged development of local youth NGOs (only 9% of young people in Skuodas and 12% in Rokiškis were actively involved in youth NGOs before project implementation) – OYCs provide space and time for meetings, organize various events and strengthen cooperation between youth, youth NGOs, institutions and volunteers. Due to actively working YOCs in both regions youth addictions, criminality will decrease and self-confidence will increase. Implementation of the project added extra value to both project partners – common activities provide space for OYCs employees and volunteers to exchange their good practice. Strengthened connections between OYCs will ensure common activities in future involving youth from both municipalities.
