Description

The project aims to provide early vocational training with a goal to allow young people to stay in the Children’s Day Centre for as long as possible by providing them with opportunities for interesting leisure time, practical learning of such professions as carpenter, gardener, tailor, florist, photographer, as well as volunteering as a meaningful and innovative way of spending time. For the implementation of this objective, the project will renovate the premises of the day centre so that adolescents will have their own leisure area. The project will also equip other facilities so the children can learn and practice occupations without interference and with the help of professionals. The second task of the project is a day occupation service in accordance with methodology specifically developed for children with behavioural and emotional disorders. For the achieving of this purpose, a service will be purchased, which will be designed to teach both the employees of the Children’s Day Centres and parents to work and live with children with emotional and behavioural disorders.

Summary of project results

According to statistical data of year 2014, there were 305 families considered to be at social risk in Klaipėda. These families are raising 554 children. In total, there were 123 children at risk in Klaipėda. Before the project implementation, 3 Children Day Care Centers were available and only 74 children got their service. All three organizations joined their capacities for one project aiming to improve the quality of life for children at risk – giving the opportunity to learn handicraft, creating a space to act independently, involving the family into learning experience. The implementation of project “Combined support for the social group children and youth of Klaipeda city” allowed to solve such issues as lack of motivation adolescents have to attend children day care centers, lack of competences in staff members to work with children and proper volunteer training. After implementation of the project besides the already provided services, new services of early vocational training for children aged 14-18 or children who are considered being in need of minimal social care, have been launched. Also, activities for children were created and competences of staff how to help these children were raised, methods of communicating with children for parents prepared.
