Currently, there is no open youth centres in the Vilkaviskis district. The aim of the project - to increase the development of youth activity services and welfare in Vilkaviskis district - will be reached by establishing the Vilkaviskis Open Youth Centre. It is expected that the establishment and activity of Vilkaviskis Open Youth Centre will boost youth occupation especially among children and youth at risk, because they need more than anything else an informal, non-binding and own leisure space with a wide range of activities. Vilkaviskis District Municipality Council and Vilkaviskis District Youth Affairs Council have approved the establishment of Vilkaviskis Open Youth Centre. The project will create huge added value because the total investment incurred during the project will allow to establish the first and the only open youth centre in Vilkaviskis district area.
Summary of project results
Vilkaviskis district needed comfortable and attractive space for youth. The aim of the project “A place for energy, initiatives and creativity – ACT“ was to increase the development of youth activity services and welfare in Vilkaviskis district. It was reached by establishing the Vilkaviskis Open Youth Centre. Project promoter expected that the establishment and activity of Vilkaviskis Open Youth Centre would boost youth occupation especially among children and youth at risk, because they need more than anything else an informal, non-binding and own leisure space with a wide range of activities. During the project the premises of Vilkaviskis Youth Center were reconstructed and surroundings prepared, adjusting it to the OYC activity. The project created huge added value because the total investment incurred during the project allowed to establish the first and the only open youth center in Vilkaviskis district area. The investment made in the project: reconstructed and OYC activities applied premises, purchased equipment, facilities, activity tools which gave start for long-term activity of OYC. A possibility for various departments concerned about the welfare of risk group children (Police Department, Social Welfare Service, Youth Affairs Committee and other) was created to direct such children and youth to OYC.
