Description

In Hungary, there is significant energy saving potential in the reduction of buildings' energy consumption; the share of the buildings in the country’s primary energy usage is approximately 40%. The energy consumption of public schools and kindergartens with outdated building structures are higher than the average; a reduction of approximately 55% in their energy consumption can be reached by their energy efficient modernization. The project supports the EU and national energy efficiency objectives and it is in accordance with the aims of the Hungarian National Energy Strategy 2030, the National Energy Efficiency Action Plan as well as the National Building Energy Efficiency Strategy. Furthermore, it contributes to the 2020 objective of reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 20%. The objective of the project is the energy efficient modernization of the TISZKK Secondary Technical and Vocational School of Trade, Catering and Tourism public school’s building, including thermal insulation of the façade and the roof, replacement of windows, installation of a 32.34 kW photovoltaic system, complex engineering modernization (replacing existing boilers, gas condensing boilers, fitting thermostatic radiator valves, upgrading the ventilation system) as well as installation of intelligent building management system. By reduction of heat loss and modernization of windows, insulation and equipment, natural gas usage and CO2 emission can be reduced and the building’s maintenance and operational costs can be saved. Estimated CO2 savings to be achieved by the energy efficient modernization of the school’s building is 126,56 ton per year while estimated energy saving is 477,15 MWh per year. Beneficiaries of the project results include students, teachers, educators, assistants and co-workers, whose comfort feeling and working conditions can be enhanced and environmental awareness can be raised.

Summary of project results

The objective of the project was the energy efficient modernization of the TSZC Secondary Technical and Vocational School of Trade, Catering and Tourism public school’s building, including thermal insulation of the facade and the roof, replacement of windows, installation of a solar panel system, complex engineering modernization (replacing existing boilers, gas condensing boilers, fitting thermostatic radiator valves, upgrading the ventilation system) as well as installation of intelligent building management system. The project included trainings (two training materials were prepared and two trainings were held for the teachers and the operator staff), competitions and other awareness raising activities for students, their parents and other local stakeholders. By reduction of heat loss and modernization of the building, natural gas usage and CO2 emission is reduced and maintenance and operational costs can be saved. The targeted, estimated CO2 savings to be achieved (during the maintenance period) by the energy efficient modernization of the school’s building is 126.56 ton per year while estimated energy saving is 477.15 MWh per year, which targets were achieved as the result of the project. Beneficiaries of the project results included more than the targeted 740 students as well as teachers, educators, assistants and co-workers, whose comfort feeling and working conditions are enhanced and environmental awareness was raised. The project was also reached the inhabitants of the city with its message (the targeted 20,260 persons were reached).
