Description

The project aims to reduce social and economic disparities among students of Spanish higher education institutions, and those from Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein. The complementary grant is intended to encourage the mobility of Spanish students to these countries in the framework of Erasmus program, and strengthen the academic cooperation between Spain and these countries. The objective is to encourage undergraduate and master students from Autonomous University of Madrid to study in Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein, in the framework of the Erasmus program, and to provide them with the necessary economic support to cope with the cost of living in these countries. In order to reach the maximum number of applicants the call will be widely disseminated in the UAM, and the selected candidates will be monitored in order to assure the quality of the project. It is expected that approximately 8 students of UAM will benefit from these grants and an average of 75 months will be financed.

Summary of project results

The crisis situation in Spain threatens the bilateral mobility at bachelor and master level with donor states, due to the higher cost of liv ing at these countries and the reduction of funds available for students for this purpose. NILS programme and the project intended to contribute to mantaining or increasing the students mobility from Spain to Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein, within the frame of the Erasmus+ programme. Autonomous University of Madrid managed a call addressed to its students at Bachelor and Master levels, in connection with the institutional Erasmus+ call, in order to promote and fund stays to be performed in Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein. As a result, 15 students carried out stays at higher education institutions in Norway and Iceland. All of them were Bachelor students Out of them, 11 were women, that is, 73%, face to 4 men, 27%. All of them had Norway as destination country, staying at 5 different institutions. These 15 students performed around 123 months of stay. NILS programme granted them for 72 months, within this programme they received an average grant of 2984 euro per person for the whole period, with an average length of stay of 4.85 months being funded within the programme. Their study period received an official recognition of ECTS (European Credit Transfer System), with an average of 46 ECTS per student. Most of the students declare that without the NILS grant they wouldn't have been able to perform their stay. They also declare that such stay shall be beneficiary for them on the academic side, but also at professional and personal levels.

Summary of bilateral results

Autonomous University of Madrid attempted to provide an international academic experience to 15 Spanish students in Norway. These 15 students performed around 73 months of stay and received an average grant of 2900 euro per person for the whole period, with an average length of stay of 4.85 months. Their study period received an official recognition of ECTS (European Credit Transfer System), with an average of 34.64 ECTS per student. For them, this experience has a great value at a personal and academic level, and probably at professional level in the future, too. On the institutional side, Autonomous University of Madrid attempted to mantain and even to increase the number of positions agreed within Erasmus+ programme with the partner institutions in Norway, and is discussing further cooperation agreements within that frame. The project provided the opportunity both to students and to the institution to enhance and to deepen bilateral relations as well as to increase the visibility of such mobility and relations in both sides.
