Description

Begoña Antón is Spanish photographer. She will carry out a photo project during a two months residency in Listhús in Ólafsfjördur, Iceland. The key objective of the Listhús Artist Residency Program is to provide an opportunity for international exchange, where creative people in all media including writers, curators and art educators are given the opportunity to meet, exchange ideas and cooperate. The project is an anthropologic investigation and Begoña Antón will aim at portraying human behaviour in adverse atmospheric conditions and investigates the consequences this can have in its bond with nature and landscape. Collaboration with the people in the village Ólafsfjördur is vital for the result of the project. During the residency Begoña Antón will create an on-line photo-diary to make the photos and her experiences available to the general public. The result of the project will be a photographic series with portraits and landscapes that will be exhibited in Ólafsfjördur, Iceland. After the residency, her goal is to show the exhibition in Spain and at international photography festivals. The project will be carried out in October and November 2013.

Summary of project results

Begoña Antón is a Spanish photographer that has carried out a photo project in the artist residency of Listhús in Ólafsfjördur (Iceland). She worked as an anthropological investigator to portrait human behaviour in adverse atmospheric conditions and investigated the consequences this can have on their bonds with nature. During her stay in Listhús, Begoña Antón gave a five-day workshop in the local art school. She engaged the students in a debate on her work and the work of other Spanish photographers that are involved in innovative projects. The final exhibition was titled “Lady Winter” and was held on 1 December 2013 in Ólafsfjördur (Iceland). Some of the photographs was later selected to be a part of an itinerant exhibition in Navarra (Spain) that took place during the spring of 2014. Begoña Antón named this part of the work: “The Earth is Only a Little Dust Under Our Feet”. During the residency, Begoña Antón created an on-line photo-diary to make her photographs available for the general public (expeditiontothecold.tumblr.com). Additionally, information on the project was published in Spanish and international magazines.
