Description

Unemployment is particularly high among women and young people and this situation is exacerbated among migrant women and women at risk of social exclusion. In addition, these groups are more vulnerable because of issues related to work-life balance, limited availability for training and access to resources. The objective of the project is to create job opportunities for women at risk of social exclusion in Spain. Through the project, education and training schemes will be developed for women to help them venture into self-employment (cooperatives) and start their own business. The project will provide training of women's cooperatives and practical training on CSR and social economy. The beneficiaries will be women at risk of social exclusion in three regions of Spain (Madrid, Comunidad Valenciana y Castilla y León).

Summary of project results

Training actions for the creation and management of cooperatives were planned but could not be finally held due to the lack of continuous time availability of participants, as many of them had part-time and punctual jobs. In exchange a course on training for textile and apparel sector was organised, but could not be held neither due to the lack of an available space during the period of the project (Madrid, Salamanca and Alicante). This incident has led to the detection of an important employment niche in Madrid region in big clothing and apparel companies. This niche has encouraged the design of future projects. The (non-performed) training actions were planned to be supported with care services in order to overcome work-life balance barriers for women who are responsible of dependent persons. As consequence, these support could not be provided. Events of promotion of Corporate Social Responsibility among companies have been planned, focusing on female employment and gender violence issues (Salamanca and Alicante). However, these actions have not been carried out, as the organisation did not reach a minimum number of gender violence victims to participate in the events. In contrast certain activities have been carried out. Awareness working sessions of the potential of the social economy for the insertion of women in vulnerable situations has been held in Salamanca. Finally, a closing event has been held in Madrid, where the main conclusions, experiences and good practices have been presented. This event has served for dissemination of the project and awareness raising purposes, as well as for the creation of solidarity networks among women.
