Description

In Spain, Roma women suffer multiple discrimination: on the basis of gender, ethnicity and social origin. The objective of the project is to attract Roma women to the employment market by making employment a real option, by promoting the employability, the social inclusion and the equality between men and women, by reducing constraints and by fostering the socio-labour inclusion of the Roma women at risk of exclusion. The intervention model proposed is based on the development of personalised employment pathways adapted to the needs of Roma women, focused on personal and social development in order to facilitate integration on the labour market. The personalised pathway begins with a diagnosis of the skills and constraints of the person involved, a tutoring and continuous guidance process during its development and a job search accompaniment when the training process is completed.

Summary of project results

The situation of the Roma population in Spain can be summarised by the 2008 FOESSA Report which states that “... three out of every four Roma households are affected by some type of exclusion process and one out of every three faces a situation of severe exclusion...” This situation of poverty and inequality is even worse in the case of Roma women who suffer triple discrimination: gender, ethnic and social background. With the aim of attracting Roma women to the labour market making employment a real option, fostering employability, social inclusion and equality between men and women, mitigating conditioning factors and especially fostering the socio-labour market integration of Roma Women in risk of exclusion, 95 women initiated a social and labour market integration pathway, 44 received vocational training and 17 found jobs. These results will be maintained and enhanced through monitoring of the pathways of these women by the different professionals of Acceder, a larger programme that the FSG has been engaged in since the year 2000 within the framework of the ESF's Operational Programme to Combat Discrimination.
