Description

The goal of this project is to create a teaching material about the energy concept aimed at integrating and deepening students´ basic applied knowledge in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, earth science and English. During the project teachers will create learning material, methodology and an examination system. The material will be based on nature and technical subjects. The outcome will be a web-based learning material, which will consist of 3 blocks: an Icelandic, an Estonian and a joint venture English block. The joint venture part will also act as a meeting place for schools to do assignments: science and technical themes quizzes, competitions, discussions, debates. In the end of the project, both partners will have access to a course about energy with basic materials, instructions and a web-environment. The materials can also be improved and developed after the project has been completed. The web-based joint venture part created during the project is a way to continue work between partners and, if possible, involve other schools.

Summary of project results

The main motivator of the project was an intensive cooperation of teachers from different subjects and between the participating countries. Main aims of the project which were described in the application have been fulfilled during the project. The aims of the project were: - to create an energy-related set of study materials combining different subjects and technical sciences with instructions and methods - to create a common web-based study platform, which can be used by both cooperation partners - to create a web-based communication environment, through which we could proceed cooperation , exchange experiences between schools of Estonia and Iceland with common study and cooperation projects both on local level and between the countries. The above listed aims have been fulfilled as can be seen on our web page https://sites.google.com/site/materialsforteachers2015/ A tangible result of the project is a webpage with learning materials: Estonian, Icelandic and joint venture English block. The materials are of very good quality and help to link the science and real life. These materials are practical and usable in different lessons. The Project has resulted in a new basic course for the students together with a possibility to learn in an integrated web-based way, to exchange their ideas, theories and inspiration online. The work within the framework of the Project has enhanced the pupils’ knowledge of the technical world , their capacity to verify the truth of opinion through research. The pupils’ IT skills have improved together with their English skills. The main aim though, has been to maintain pupils’ interest and curiosity in science and technical subjects.

Summary of bilateral results

At the end of the project, both partners have access to set about energy with basic materials, instructions, links etc and a user-friendly web-environment. The materials can also be improved and developed after the project is over. This is an ongoing process. The Project has brought along awareness of the possibilities which are offered by this new international Partnership and active communication to maintain these new contacts. The staff have obtained new study material to be used in further teaching process with basic materials, instructions, links etc., as well as the web-based joint venture for education and communication. Both the students` and teachers`interest and motivation have risen and together with this, also their ability and competence. The impact of the Cooperation project on the teachers is expressed in the interest to share and discuss teaching experiences and methodologies with teachers from other countries which results in improved knowledge of other educational systems and also in improved ability to strengthen the large dimension in their teaching. Teachers also improved their ability to communicate in English, including technical language. The ties between colleagues have become denser, people are in closer connection with each other and benefit from shared experience.
