Description

The purpose of the project „Health Promotion Station – Trainings for Communities“ is to establish and implement training programme which is broad based, addresses different fields of practice and specialists and is focused on health promotion activities and supports the sustainable development of Estonian communities. The keywords are: regionality, community based, network-relating co-operation in the area of health-promotion. The general aim for the training programme is establish health-aware behaviors in communities and this will be possible through training the keyspecialists in communities to implement preventive interventions through experience- and activity-based activities and learning. The training will be implemented in 2 stages: 1) training the trainers 2) training specialists In addition to the training programme „Guidelines for Estonian local governments to implement community-based prevention strategies in health promotion field“ will be drafted. It is focused on youth health promotion, prevention of substance abuse.

Summary of project results

The general aim for the training programme was to establish health-aware behaviours in communities through training the keyspecialists in communities to implement preventive interventions through experience- and activity-based activities and learning. The training was implemented in 2 stages: 1) training the trainers: 31 (4 men) experts who already had experiences in health-promotion field and who became trainers for the keyspecialists in communities: 2) training the specialists: 302 (24 men) keypersons in communities who implemented the training knowledge in Estonian local governments / municipalities; 3) As a part of the training programm, 75 different local initiatives took place. Activities affected/included 700 people. 3) Guideline for Estonian local governments to implement community-based prevention strategies in health promotion field (focused especially on youth health promotion, prevention of substance abuse) was developed (http://terviseilmajaam.hk.tlu.ee/ilmajaam/).

Summary of bilateral results

Collaboration went well. Partner's contribution to the project consisted of the professor G. Espens prepared and conducted lectures and seminars: Healthy lifestyle and its designing in community; affilitated community for supporting of mental health and self-support of risk groups; community activation methods; Teamwork and networking. The partnership supported the project objectives and had an impact on the achievement of the indicators. Collaboration is planned to continue.
