Description

There are no sufficient social services provided to mentally ill people who are at risk of social exclusion. Project aims at creating a complex program of care in a natural (home) environment for the mentally ill suffering from schizophrenia who are socially excluded or at risk of social exclusion. Project activities will include visits at the home of the patient by a psychologist, special education pedagogue and social worker – therapist. Furthermore, project will include therapeutic afternoons and trips. Family members will have the possibility of telephone consultation with a special education pedagogue and they also will have the opportunity to meet family members of other people suffering from schizophrenia. In the final phase of the project, a questionnaire/survey and conference (also for the public)will take place, which will, inter alia, contribute to evaluation of the benefits of project. The main target group of the project are schizophrenics who are at risk of social exclusion or who have been already socially excluded.

Summary of project results

The aim of the sub-project was to provide complex supportive service for target group. The service was provided by various interdisciplinary specialists (psychologist, special education pedagogue, social worker – therapist). The service involved working with mentally ill in its natural (home) environment and also working with this environment. The aim of these activities was to help overcome social isolation of mentally ill schizophrenic. A psychologist and a special educator and a social worker-therapist visited eight persons in the target group at home. For target group families were running telephone consultations. For target group were provided a therapeutic afternoon, trips, and meetings of parents too. There were also two conferences for project participants and the public. During detection other needs of families and patients with schizophrenia was running a questionnaire survey based on project activities. The psychologist visited eight persons from target group in the home environment for 48 times. A special educator and social pedagogue-therapist provided 192 visits with 8 persons with schizophrenia in the home environment. During 48 therapeutic afternoons were supported ten persons with mental illness of schizophrenia who were at risk of social exclusion. For the same persons were organized 4 trips within the project. Thirty-four persons were involved in the telephone consultations with a total time 96 hours. We have managed 3 meetings of family members of schizophrenic patients with a total time 9 hours with the participation of 68 people. The questionnaire survey was responded by 30 persons in the target group and by their family members. The final conference was attended by 117 people.
