Description

Mental disorders are rising and long-term care in the Czech Republic needs to be adapted to this trend. The main objective of the project is to improve the quality of life of people with mental disorders in the Czech Republic through the systematic implementation of public awareness, education and media campaign in order to take away the stigma of people with chronic mental illness in the society. The main goal of the project is going to be fulfilled through the implementation of 7 regional workshops / competition –screening-discussion / and also via involving a social networks and project´s innovative outputs using Norwegian methodologies for destigmatization campaign. The primary target group represent people with mental disorders and their relatives (family). Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Sciences will provide rules for evaluating communication programs and destigmatization programmes.

Summary of project results

The aim of the project was to improve the quality of life of people with mental illness in the Czech Republic through the implementation of education, training and media related activities in order to destigmatize people with chronic mental illness. The objective was achieved through the implementation of the project activities mainly by 1) creation of materials for destigmatization campaign, 2) organization of workshops in seven regions of the country, 3) comics competition and 4) evaluation of the campaign by Norwegian partner. Following outputs were delivered: - creation of materials for the campaign: 1) Book publication, 2) comic story available online, 3) posters, roll-ups, 4) media - 11 press releases, 4 published articles - 7 workshops with a movie screening followed by discussions on destigmatization of mentally ill - realization of the competition for the best comic story - evaluation of the campaign as a whole (all activities) by the Norwegian partner Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Sciences, Work Research Institute Activities of the project contributed to decrease in stigmatization of mentally ill people. Created outputs will be available through the beneficiary webpage and will be used to future planned destigmatization activities. Besides the beneficiary representatives also participants from the target group (= mentally ill people) took part in project activities and contributed to successful project implementation.

Summary of bilateral results

The Norwegian partner Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Sciences provided beneficiary with the valuable information on how to set up structural changes in the process of destigmatization. The bilateral cooperation helped to strengthen relations mainly on the project level between the beneficiary and the Norwegian partner. Organizations established the cooperation before the project realization, but because of the project the cooperation was improved and strengthened. The bilateral cooperation within the project was based on the transfer of knowledge of the Norwegian partner with decreasing of stigmatization of mentally ill people. The campaign was designed based on the experiences of the Norwegian partner as well the campaign was evaluated by the partner after it was finished.
