Description

The project is a reaction to a current gap in social and healthcare services for mentally ill people in Hradec Kralove and Kralovehradecky region. The main project objective is to implement and test a new complex support programme for persons with a more serious form of mental disease, thanks to which there will be ensured a “golden mean” of support (the personnel will be at disposal 8 hours/day) in a common city flat. The service will be according to the law on social services classified as a residential form of social rehabilitation. The expected result of the project is the implemented, pilot-tested programme of rehabilitation living with prepared material and technical equipment, a highly qualified personnel for providing of the service, a prepared methodology of the service, a set of agreed on cooperation procedures within the local net of social-healthcare services and with local social and healthcare institutions for mentally ill people. The primary target group are adults with long-term mental illness, particularly those with schizophrenic disorders and affective disorders. Secondary target group are experts in Psychiatry.

Summary of project results

The main goal of the Project is introduce very new Program for people suffering serious mental illness. Community based housing Program for people, who need higher level of support, than the outreach services available can offer. This Program is designed to enable this target group to leave institutional services even though they need more help at the beginning and live again in the environment they choose. The main activities were: • Arranging four bedroom flat in the center of the Hradec Kralove city and successfully reconstructed it for purpose of the rehabilitation housing program. Than we arranged appropriate places in Pardubice and Chrudim as well.. • We trained six workers to be able to ensure the Program. • In team including the workers in training we create the Methodical Manual – Handbook of Rehabilitation housing program. • Under the Methology mentioned above we started Pilot verification in practice using the first version of Handbook. We involved 8 clients into the Program. Mostly the people living in intramural (institutional) services who cannot find community based housing meeting the level of support they needed. • After the period of Pilot verification we started to revise established Methodology and we used the focus group with clients and workers to ask them what is helpful and needed to stay in community based housing services. All eight clients stayed successfully in Program through all Project realisation period. The main outputs: • The Project introduced very new Program to Hradec Kralove, Pardubice and Chrudim cities. The Program offers mentally ill people housing services with the higher level of support. • Facility in Hradec Kralove – We finished complete reconstruction of rented flat with four bedrooms and utility room for services stuff. Then we prepared two more places in Pardubice (4 beds) and Chrudim (2 beds). • Intellectual output – We created the Program Handbook and after a pilot period we revised it and enhanced using the feed back from clients of the Program and stakeholders. We hold a conference attended by municipalities, other social and health care services and clients to discus basic principles of care provided by the Program. • Personnel – 6 workers trained for the Program. We create a curriculum of education needed for the Program and arranged the study stay in important services with similar traits in Czech Republic.
