Description

A comprehensive perception of the disease in persons with personality disorder is the only possible approach to help their full integration into society and the labor market. The project is focused on implementation of the new program for support of persons with chronic mental illness – personality disorder, through introduction of the method Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), within after-care at outpatient service Kaleidoskop. The project objective will be achieved through the combination of 3 key activities, which form together a comprehensive know-how for provision of more quality help to mentally ill persons (1. DBT short stay ward of social-vocational rehabilitation; 2. DBT short stay ward of prevention of mental diseases in ex-clients; 3. DBT groups for parents and relatives). The target groups are mentally ill persons, threatened by stigmatization and related social exclusion and who underwent previous intensive treatment of personality disorders. The project is also focused on support of parents of mentally ill persons and other relatives.

Summary of project results

The main goal of the project was to offer the most effective preventive help and highest possible quality of support to people with personality disorder, to create favourable conditions for their integration into society and into labour market, and thus to achieve positive results in their recovery. To achieve the objective of the project we chose an innovative method of Dialectical - Behaviour Therapy and formed a new DBT program. The main goal was fully fulfilled in accord to the focus of the project. A new social service "DBT Centre" (after - care services) was registered and now is financed by public budget. Three key activities were implemented 1. DBT short stay ward of social - vocational rehabilitation. This activity was focused on clients who left the therapeutic community or another service after their basic stabilization and who needed support during their integration into everyday life. (18 clients) 2. DBT short stay ward of prevention of psychiatric diseases in ex-clients. This activity was focused on preventive client care during the period of their transition back into everyday life. It is a very difficult and unstable period with a high risk of relapse, therefore the clients are in need of sufficient support and motivation.(10 ex -clients) 3.DBT groups for parents and relatives. This activity was focused on cooperation with relatives and friends of clients. A complex approach to the clients was needed during the preventive care and attempts to integrate them back into everyday life. (21 family members or friends of the target group) A total amount of 49 clients with personality disorder or their relatives was offered support in the course of the project.
