Description

The aim of the project is to strengthen collaboration between the Czech Republic and Norway by extending current collaboration of mathematics educators and other researchers from Brno University of Technology (BUT) and University of Agder (UiA). Collaboration between BUT and UiA is based on the exchange of knowledge and experience in education, research, management and social aspects of academia. One part of the project is to support professional development of members of staff working in research, education and management by participation in a long-term educational internship at the partner institution. Second part of the project is a short-term visit of BUT staff at partner institution focused on joint participation in academic events. All internships will result in establishing new personal contacts and further development of relations and cooperation between universities.

Summary of project results

The aim of the project was to strengthen collaboration between the Czech Republic and Norway by extending current collaboration of mathematics educators and other researchers from Brno University of Technology (BUT) and University of Agder (UiA). Bilateral cooperation between BUT and UiA was based on joint activities of two kinds. One kind of activities supported professional development of members of staff working in research, education and management by participation in a long-term educational internship at the partner institution. Second kind of activities was a short-term visit of BUT staff at partner institution focused on joint participation in academic events. All internships resulted in establishing new personal contacts and further development of relations and cooperation between universities. All participants from the Czech Republic wrote a final participant report. Moreover, long-term visits participants prepared presentations about their experience.

Summary of bilateral results

Every year a number of beginners in science decide to continue as assistant professors, lecturers and/or PhD students at their institution. It is useful and important for them to gain experience at other institutions too. Unfortunately, there is no systematic support of such activities at universities in the Czech Republic. On the other hand, this is not the case in Norway. Our motivation was to bring an opportunity for young researchers to learn experience at partner institution as well as to let them observe how the policies concerning PhD students are applied in Norway. Further, in 2015 BUT got support from Norway Grants for project METMAS (NF-CZ07-ICP-3-201-2015). After start of this project, a need for stronger cooperation on all levels of tertiary education (sharing experience, knowledge and ideas in mathematics and mathematics education) was identified. Therefore, BUT and UiA decided to apply for a grant (Mobility Project) as a convenient tool to fulfill these needs.
