Description
During the mobility project the applicant will attend courses taught at the University of Bergen (UB) related to bioinformatics. This allows extension of applicants experience in teaching such courses and it will enable creation of new topics for courses the applicant is guarantor of the Technical University of Liberec (TUL) and new topics for diplomas and bachelors theses. Recently applicant started negation about Ph.D. students in the field of bioinformatics and the stay will help to create relevant topics for Ph.D student. Thanks to the mobility project applicant will be able to get in touch with instruments and approaches in well-established laboratory and cooperate (e.g. work shadowing) with team of experienced researchers together with prof. Ovreas. This enables creation of new procedures and optimize selected approaches connected with bioinformatics at TUL. Such cooperation will result in possibility of application for common grants, publications and sharing knowledge.
Summary of project results
The mobility project allowed an establishment of a close cooperation with a group of prof. Lise Ovreas on research topics related to bioinformatics as well as education. During the stay the following selected activates took place (i) processing and analyses of 16S data sets (ii) annotation and processing of two novel planctomycetes genomes, (iii) active participation at NORBIS 2016 summer school and also a guess lecture at BiB 2016 (Bioinformatics in Bergen), (iv) attendance at internal department seminars, 2 Ph.D. defenses and also regular meetings and (v) discussions with Ph.D. students on their studies, supervising etc. Gained experience in processing of biological data together with a way of education, particularly extremely valuable experience in supervising Ph.D. students are one of the most valuable results from the applicant point of view. There is a strong bilateral will to extend such a cooperation even after the end of mobility stay.
Summary of bilateral results
The mobility project targets could be roughly divided into two main streams (i) research and cooperation in bioinformatics and (ii) gaining experience in education at UiB at all levels (maters, Ph.D.). Both streams were covered during the mobility stay. Thanks to tide cooperation with prof. Ovreas on tasks related to the processing and evaluation of biological data applicant has been given a great opportunity to get new and extremely valuable experience and knowledge. The education tasks were mainly covered by presenting several lectures, participating on a summer school NORBIS 2016, attending two Ph.D. defenses on UiB, internal seminars at UiB and also by chats with the current students at departments of Department of Biology and also Informatics. From both points of view the gained experience is highly valuable and can be used for extending further cooperation (by application for a common grants) and also establishment of novel courses and topics at the TU in Liberec.
