Description
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jan Valdman is a specialist in applied mathematics with a focus on numerical simulations in engineering. This exchange project will strengthen ongoing cooperation of Dr. Valdman and Prof. Talal Rahman from BUC on fast solutions of engineering problems. This is important with respect to growing interest of BUC in scientific computing, in particular in connection to real time modeling on GPUs. Dr. Valdman will also provide a short computation course for Bc./MSc. students at BUC, where students learn example models in mechanics of solids, their mathematical formulation and basic implementations in mathematical software MATLAB. Dr. Valdman will participate in some lectures of Prof. Rahman on advanced topics in applied mathematics to get an overview of teaching techniques and standards in Norway. This will influence a strategy for an accreditation of a for new MSc. studies in applied mathematics at the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice.
