Description

Main goal of the project is to establish new international academical relations and build scientific and research team in the field of theoretical as well as applied economics. The team will focus on the development of suitable optimization models for decision-making support on the company, managerial and customer level. Statistical methods will be used especially as a suitable tool for the demand prediction. Therefore, other main idea of this project is to build on the extensive experience and synergetic knowledge of the involved parties in development of economical-optimization problems. The project will take advantage of the combination of deep knowledge and practical competence of the Czech and Norwegian partners in the areas of economics, applied mathematics, logistics, optimization and statistics. The result of the cooperation will be a professional network among the partner organizations, with intensive transfer of knowledge and a high integration of know-how.

Summary of project results

The project between the Tomas Bata University (TBU) in Zlín, Faculty of Applied Informatics (FAI), and Molde University College (MUC) started on February 1st 2016, i.e., one month later compared to the project application. It was caused by organizational changes at TBU that arrived at the turn of 2015 and 2016. Due to the changes, department responsible for the project changed from the Faculty of Management and Economics to the FAI. The changes were announced and approved by DZS at the beginning of 2016. All Czech (direct) participants of the project are from FAI; colleagues, that contributed in some of the outcomes, are from Brno University of Technology (BUT). During the project, 3 "inter-university" workshops and 1 meeting were realized: 1. Meeting at MUC (19/5/2016), 2. Workshop in Zlín (14-15/7/2016), 3. Workshop in Molde (18-19/8/2016) and 4. Workshop at TBU (24-25/8/2016). Each workshop had an exact program, where some of the attendants presented: the project, their departments and their research work while the other attendants contributed during discussions after each presentation (programs are attached). Participants published 8 scientific papers during the period (1 paper in journal with an impact factor and 7 conference papers). They joined 5 conferences (Mendel and ApMod in Brno, ECMS in Regensburg and PPSN in Edinburgh), where they presented 4 papers and 1 abstract including direct results of the project, and 2 conferences (ICAISC in Zakopane and HM in Plymouth), where they published 3 papers including some preliminary results that mostly dealt with algorithm development (later used for the direct marketing based results). Moreover, head of the project (D. Hrabec from TBU), puted his PhD thesis in writing which waits for reviews of his supervisors (prof. K. Haugen from MUC and dr. P. Popela from BUT) before it will be delivered and defended. Last but not least, a bilateral agreement between TBU and MUC was signed in August 2016.

Summary of bilateral results

The main results of the project is the bilateral agreement between two universities involved. The second importnat output are the research results being journal articles and conference papers. One research stream relates to the mathematical optimization, while the second deals with developing suitable algorithms needed in marketing problems. Strenghtening of existing cooperation between head of the project, his supervisor and some other Czech and Norwegian colleagues must also be mentioned. Main goal of the project was to built scientific and research team in the field of theoretical and applied economical problems. We utilized and shared a unique combination of knowledge of all involved partners in the areas of economic, applied mathematics, logistics and optimization. We integrated and enhanced the separately studied fields to improve the reached achievements in preparation of unified theoretical methodology with the perspective of the (future) development of subsequent tools. Besides the established bilateral agreement and workshop realized, the main outputs was published reasearch work being: 1 paper in journal with an impact factor and 7 conference papers. Participants joined 6 conferences, where they presented 4 papers and 1 abstract including direct results of the project and 3 papers including some preliminary results that mostly dealt with algorithm development. Moreover, one PhD thesis waits for reviews before it will be delivered and defended.
