Description

The project aims at decreasing domestic violence through information campaigns and initiatives for increasing the awareness and the knowledge among Roma and other vulnerable groups. The aim is to prevent domestic violence and promote zero tolerance for such violence. By disseminating information on domestic violence among vulnerable groups such as the Roma and raising the awareness of these groups on the problem and by informing the victims of violence of their rights, the victims will be empowered to seek protection and support and report incidents of violence in their families. The project outcome is domestic violence reduced. The project outputs are awareness raising activities with a special focus on the Roma and other vulnerable communities. The target group of the project which is expected to benefit are victims of domestic violence (women and girls) belonging to Roma ethnic group and other vulnerable communities; children from Roma origin and other vulnerable groups living at risk of domestic violence.

Summary of project results

One of the milestones to prevent the domestic violence is to raise the public sensibility and awareness on this. The information campaigns and other public activities among Roma and other vulnerable groups are needed in order to provide information, knowledge and recognition about this phenomenon. 6 information campaigns raising the awareness and the knowledge of the victims of domestic violence on their rights, prevention and support was held. The campaigns were conducted among Roma population at different locations (5 small settlements in region of the Kavarna municipality and in Kavarna). The selected locations are predominantly populated by Roma. Presentations, debates and other initiatives (role plays, interactive seminars, children drawings exhibition) were performed in schools, kinder gardens and other public venues. Information materials were elaborated and disseminated. During the campaign 476 persons participated in the mentioned meetings and performance for the increasing the social awareness and intolerance to DV. Round tables with stakeholders for a social debate in domestic violence issues were organized. A website http://www.project.centar21.com/index.html was developed where information on project implementation could be found.
