Description

The main activity of Delifud EOOD is retail and wholesale, marketing and distribution of coffee, tea, chocolate, confectionery and ice-cream. The majority of the current operators in the food sector in Bulgaria are using obsolete equipment which doesn't efficiently use resources (energy, water, waste). The objective of this project is to increase Delifood's competitiveness through implementation of recent green technologies for food processing. The project will result in establishment of a facility for production and commerce of ice‐cream, pastry and other related products with an integrated system for reducing organic waste and electricity and water usage. The project will also contribute to the creation of approximately 15 new jobs.

Summary of project results

The project was needed in order to achieve two main goals; increase the company’s competitiveness and relieve it from the dependence on other companies for the production of ice-cream; and create a new point of sale with an environmentally-friendly production base. The project activities resulted in: 1) Installation of the machine for reducing of organic waste; 2) Construction and installation of a cold chamber, intended to provide greater refrigerated storage at a reduced energy cost; 3) Personnel training; 4) Creation of 25 new jobs in the company. In terms of environmental objectives, the project managed to achieve reduction in the electricity usage thanks to the implemented technologies (cold chamber, combined-cycle ice cream machine) and managed to treat food waste in amounts much inferior to the forecasts due to the lesser volume of work performed.
