Description

The project aims at adopting new environmental technology for production of bio-fuels by processing waste wood materials, which is one of the most effective renewable energy resources with good perspectives in Bulgaria and worldwide. One of the main advantages of the biomass energy resources is the utilization of waste from other productions and the ecological effect of that – pure and complete usage of the waste. The project implementation will result in the construction and commissioning of a facility for production of pellets and briquettes with the capacity of 14 000 tons production per year. The new production will open 15 new work places in a rural region with relatively high unemployment which will improve the economic situation at local level. Agroplas AS is the Norwegian partner to the project. The role of Agroplas AS in the project is to provide technical and commercial support to the Project Promoter, with the objective of providing innovative technology and know-how towards implementing a competitive solid biofuel production and sales operation.

Summary of project results

The project aimed at introducing new environmental technology for production of bio-fuel by waste wooden materials. The project succeeded in delivering its goal - establishment of a new pellets and briquettes production facility in Davidkovo village (Banite Municipality) which is operational since May 2016. During the period May-December 2016, significant results were achieved – around 7’200 tons of biomass used (baseline 1’600 per year), more than 20% of electricity saved by using the innovative technology (baseline 15%), an extensive research (1 as baseline) and proposed environmental solutions (3 as baseline) proposed by the Norwegian partner Utgard Ltd., and 22 new green jobs created (baseline 15).

Summary of bilateral results

The joint efforts of the Project Promoter Hiteck Ltd. and the Norwegian partner Utgard Ltd. contributed to the overall success of the project. During the project implementation Utgard Ltd. provided the relevant expertise in engineering solutions for energy efficient drying and grinding through innovative use of green technologies and natural resources. As a result of the successful partnership, a Cluster for Green Energy and Innovative Wood Processing was established in 2016.
