Description

The purpose of the project is to improve the quality of soil in agricultural field with positive environmental impact on the atmosphere. Collection of wheat straw during the harvesting and its utilization in a controlled digestion process. The quality and quantity of the output is strongly related with input in digestion process. Biogas content more than 50% of methane, which is extremely detrimental for atmosphere. The biogas will be captured, methane from with will be rectified and compressed. The main goal of this project is to start production of solid state organic fertilizer from bio mass. For a constant quality and stable quantity of the process main output– bio fertilizer is crucial.

Summary of project results

The objective of the project was the construction of a plant for bio fertilizers in the region of Bourgas. The production process is based on the fermentation of crop residues, remaining after tillage such as stalks and stubble. A closed-loop production cycle is implemented and all derivatives (gaseous, liquid and solid organic wastes) are collected and utilized. The temperature of the process destroys all pathogens in the biomass.. There are no working installation which uses straw as its main biomass input in a process of a dry thermophilic methanisation neither in Bulgaria , nor in Norway. Until the cut off date, 30 April 2016, the following results have been achieved: - Land acquired and Fence built, water drilling completed - Geological and geodesic surveys carried out - Project technical and detailed designs (Architecture, Construction, Electrical, Technology, Plumbing, Road structure, External water-conduit, and Fire Safety) were finished . -Land status rezoned and received detailed urban plan with parameters which allow the building of the installation - Positive opinion from Bourgas Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water obtained - Preliminary contract with the local electrical company and contract with the local plumbing company secured - A formal application for patent and utility model has been prepared and submitted to the Patent Office of Bulgaria - Lab tests are being carried out by the partner and are still on-going: the results are encouraging The project received an extension of the eligibility deadline until 30 April 2017 ( pursuant to Art.1.12. of the Regulation on the implementation of the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2014-2021 and Annex B ( E) of the Memorandum of Understating on the implementation of the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2014-2021.

Summary of bilateral results

Very good cooperation with the Norwegian partner - the Norwegian University of Life Sciences, Norway. The two partners were in a continuous communication and constructive dialogue during the project implementation. The Norwegian partner's most important contribution was related to the testing (certifying) organic fertilizers and giving feedback on how to improve the quality. In addition, it has facilitated the realization of the knowledge triangle: cooperation between the Norwegian University, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, and the business. The Norwegian University of Life Sciences will be further involved in adjusting the technological process at the production facility.
