Description

The project falls under the Roma priority field and focuses on “Educational materials for Roma children: from folklore story tales to the Roma Holocaust”. During the project, the researcher plans to attend a training course on methodology of writing and communicative skills, deliver a lecture in their research field, exchange experience with peers and discuss future cooperation activities, including visits from the Icelandic partners to Bulgaria. The project is expected to benefit not only academic and research communities, but also teaching professionals. The University of Iceland will contribute as a Donor Project Partner. They will assist in the project by sharing knowledge and research on migration to the three Scandinavian countries, and on the integration of linguistic and ethnic minorities across Iceland. By joining forces, the Project Promoter and Donor Project Partner aim to encourage cross-country partnership and research on Roma inclusion and strengthen the cooperation between both institutions.

Summary of project results

The project sought to conduct research activities on Roma literature materials for children and prepare a publication on “Educational materials for Roma children: from folklore story tales to the Roma Holocaust”. Having been completed, the project has resulted in one lecture on the research paper topic titled "Roma literature for children:historical development and new tendencies". Moreover, the researcher attended four events directly linked to the project objectives, and two additional publications have been prepared as a result of the mobility project: the research paper "Publications for Roma children across Europe: past and present", which will be produced under supervision of the editorial team from the Institute for Foreign Languages at the University of Iceland, for publication in English; and "A publication for the Roma children across Europe", which will be published by Paradigma House in Sofia.

Summary of bilateral results

The research on integration of ethnic and linguistic minorities in Iceland is very rich and thus the University of Iceland has been able to provide valuable input to the project, for instance by introducing the researcher to new research methods. The researcher intends to further build on the relationships established with its peers in Iceland and the possibility of joint research activities have been discussed.
