Description

Project “Life as a film” aims to provide a common ground for talented artists from different age, social and ethnical groups through all kinds of contemporary and traditional art with a focus on cinema, music and photography. However, most of the people who live outside the capital don’t have access to cinema or have a limited access to music concerts, exhibitions and discussions on art and culture, especially Roma people, who live in closed communities and are basically isolated from the cultural life of the country. This need generated the project idea to involve Roma and other minorities, especially young people, in series of activities showing the unique diversity of their cultural values throughout contemporary forms of art such as reproduction of famous movies. The goal is coexistence, presentation and documentation of contemporary arts with contribution to cultural diversity and non-traditional forms of communication, which makes the project in full compliance with the objectives of the programme and the measure. “Life as a film” is an art project that includes: creation of an exhibition consisting of 50 photos – 25 big original art photos inspired by world film’s classics and 25 frames from the movies that inspired the exhibition; preparation and conduction of five concerts with film music that will accompany the exhibition opening; multimedia (projection during the event) showing parts of the movies and the making of the art photos. These 3 forms of expression through art combinated will present the project as a coherent product of art – a film music concert, exhibition of photos and a multimedia product, held in 5 cities. It will provide a particular knowledge about movie making and film art, digital photography and music and increase the interest for contemporary art among students, art lovers and minorities outside the capital. Everyone interested in contemporary art – students, young artists, explorers, tourists will benefit from the project.

Summary of project results

Bulgaria is a country where different minorities live in peace. Thanks to the ethnical tolerance and coexistence various forms of traditional art are being preserved. However, most of the people who live outside the capital don’t have access to cinema or have a limited access to music concerts, exhibitions on art and culture. For example, Roma people live in closed communities and are basically isolated from the blooming modern cultural life of the country. Our desire is to involve Roma and other minorities, especially young people, in series of activities showing the unique diversity of their cultural values throughout contemporary forms of art such as reproduction of famous movies for instance. The project improved the quality of communication and increased the interest for contemporary art as it comes to students, art lovers and minorities outside the capital. It provided particular knowledge about movie making and film art, digital photography and music. 33 photos were taken from the scenes of selected film classics and 25 photos from the site of the project bisexual. It produced a multimedia product with a duration of about 60 minutes reflecting the frames of the process of shooting scenes from the films for the photographic exhibition and comparable frames from the films themselves. Prepared music program of 17 musical pieces of music from films played by film cadres and sealed in photos. The opening of the photo exhibition at the National Palace of Culture and additional 5 presentations of the exhibition in the cities of Dobrich, Varna, Targovishte, Sofia and Plovdiv, as well as a concert-spectacle combining the photography exhibition, multimedia product and concerts with film music.
