Description

The Municipality of Kazanlak has extremely rich cultural resources, as it has over 90 announced and over 30 declared monuments and a huge museum collection. A major problem is that the rich cultural heritage is not fully valorized and requires an active policy of attracting funds for conservation, exhibition and animation. The overall objective is to digitize movable and immovable cultural heritage of the Valley of Roses and Thracian Kings and to promote it. The project fully corresponds to the EEA Grants objective of decreasing social and economic disparities and to the principles of Europe 2020 Strategy and the Digital Agenda of Europe for equal access to information and knowledge, thus enabling social inclusion and promoting Kazanlak as a cultural tourist destination. The project will provide training for 20 people, 14 of which Roma, to work with the provided equipment for digitization of the collection of the Historical Museum “Iskra” in Kazanlak. 3D scanning will be implemented and graphic reconstructions will illustrate how 9 Thracian tombs and funeral complexes looked originally; and 1283 objects are planned to be digitized for the first time. GIS (geographic information system) will be developed with documentation of archaeological sites in terms of their spatial characteristics and geographic location, the environment and basic information about them. The collected information will be available online in the established digital centre of Iskra Museum. These activities will attract a new generation of audiences; will develop the culture of visiting museum and benefit, among others, people with special interests in cultural heritage, tourists and guests of Kazanlak, local Roma people, as well as people with disabilities. The project results will be widely popularized, including among Roma people, through information events and published materials, to raise awareness about the new opportunities to familiarize with the local cultural heritage.
