Description

The main limitation of the Museum-Library Complex is the lack of access to the building and services and of modern methods to present cultural heritage. To overcome these limitations and to reach specified and measurable results, it is necessary to implement actions determining the needs of the local community. The main objective of the project is improving access to the Complex. The project will provide facilities for access, including a four-point lift to provide access for disabled people to all the floors of the complex and a platform for the bookstores of the library. The project will also increase attractiveness and accessibility by installing interactive technologies such as an information screen in the inner lounge between the Museum and the Library, an interactive guide for the permanent exhibitions, two information kiosks and web pages for the Museum and the Library. Finally, the project will ensure research on and presentation of the history and customs of the Roma community. The project activities address the aim to facilitate access to cultural centres and museums. In respect of the Roma population the foreseen activities will include carrying out a study of the history, customs, habits, traditions and holidays of the Roma living in the area surrounding the Municipality. All gathered information and materials will be published in the catalogue - “History and Traditions of the Roma Population”. The selection of target groups is on the basis of identified problems and needs for the development of cultural policy and identity in the European context. The project results will have direct impact on the target groups. They include improved access for people with disabilities, services through interactive technologies and integration of the Roma population. Roma community participation in the activities will contribute to increase their active involvement in cultural life and help the collection and storage of information about their culture.

Summary of project results

The achievement of the main goal of the project contributes to the access improvement of the Complex Museum- Library in Dimitrovgrad, aiming at converting it into a cultural centre and thus, redounding the conservation and preservation of the cultural heritage in the territory of the municipality and the access to the entities and the funds of both institutions in the Complex. Project activities address the goal the programme: easier access to culture centres and museums. On the one hand, the project implements construction activities that contribute to the easier access of disabled people to the premises of the complex, and on the other hand, interactive technologies for the activities of the Complex Museum- Library are implemented to increase its attractiveness and to turn it into a cultural centre; some completed activities were aimed at integrating the Roma people through planned research work for their history and traditions, their presentation in front of the community and the creation and presentation of a photo exhibition. The most important results from the execution of project activities relate to the significantly improved accessibility to the Complex for disabled people, the premises renovation of both institutions, implemented contemporary technologies for entities and funds access and the active inclusion of Roma people representatives in different activities. Main conclusion and a scientific lesson from project execution is that the good conditions both for physical access and for implementation of interactive equipment raise significantly the interest and the visit of residents and town guests to the cultural and historical heritage. The participation of Roma people representatives in some activities improves their perception for adherence and fulfilment in the contemporary life of the town. A good practice is the implementation of innovative contemporary equipment, which allows observation of expositions and funds from a distance, the creation of a virtual exhibition and contemporary internet web pages of the project and of both institutions. http://dgcultproject.org/bg http://dgmuseum.org/ http://dgbiblioteka.org/ The entire necessary information related to exponents, halls, events of the Complex Museum- Library as a cultural centre may hardly be represented only in the traditional brochures and catalogues. This is why, it is necessary to use contemporary posting means of information for visitors in the cultural centres. Most perspective and suitable for the purpose are the systems based of sensor display (kiosks).
