Call for proposals: Green industry innovation in Lithuania

Lithuanian ‘green’ businesses can now apply for funding. The project support worth over €8 million euro aims to increase the competitiveness of green enterprises, including greening of existing industries, green innovation and green entrepreneurship. Partnerships with Norwegian businesses are compulsory in some of the projects. 

To improve Lithuania’s ability to compete on the global markets, its economy needs to reduce the environmental impact and improve resource efficiency.

Green innovative products play an important role in increasing the competitiveness of Lithuanian companies and contributing to a shift towards a greener economy.

The Grants green industry innovation programme in Lithuania provides a vital support to these changes.

Funding for green projects

The main call will distribute €6 637 634 to projects facilitating the realisation of business opportunities of greening of the European economy.

The supported projects will cover:

  • Development, installation or introduction of new environmental technologies to the market;
  • Significant improvement of the existing technological processes in order to reduce their environmental impact and/or increase the efficiency of the use of natural resources, and their introduction to the market;
  • Acquisition and installation of new innovative environmental technologies.

Projects must include Norwegian partner

The programme also aims to encourage an active cooperation between businesses, organisations, higher education and research institutions in Lithuania and Norway in implementing joint business projects. The supported projects must include a Norwegian partner, except for the small grant scheme, where partnerships are not compulsory but encouraged,

Small grants scheme

Under the small grants scheme call, €1 686 030 is to be distributed to selected projects contributing to the same outcome.

Deadline for applications: 12 September 2013.

The supported projects will cover:

  • Development of technologically new green products – green products or green materials and their introduction to the market;
  • Improvement of the current products – the technological improvement of items or materials to reduce their impact on the environment or human health, and their introduction to the market.
