Description

As a result of non-existing education on intimacy related issues and programs, which would inform the youth about drugs in Slovakia, young people get unconsciously involved in risky behaviour. The goal of the project is to increase the awareness of young people about these risks and to support harm reduction services for them. As a result of the project the young people will have up-to-date information about premature man-woman relationships and addictive substances, so they can avoid risky situations or are able to handle them with the help of professional harm reduction services. Target groups of the project are young people experimenting with or abusing drugs and those with active sexual life. Young people will be informed about drugs through personal consultations, articles in media, workshops and published information materials. Roma children and young people constitute the part of target group, about 10-15 % of the NGO’s clients.

Summary of project results

No targeted sexual education nor programs which would inform the youth about drugs exist in Slovakia. As a result, young people get unconsciously involved in risky behaviour. The project outcomes will be maintained through the organisation’s core activities for which they will gain new resources in the future. The objective of the project was to increase the awareness of young people about sex and drugs, to support harm reduction services for them, and to create a space among them for discussions about tabooed topics. The objective was fully met. From a long-term perspective, the project contributed to an increased awareness and improved skills of young people, helping them to engage in safer behaviour, especially in risky environments. The outcome of the project was defined as: young people possessing up-to-date information about the topics of sex and drugs, owing to which they can avoid getting involved in risky situations or are able to handle them with the help of professional harm reduction services. The outcome was fully met. Main outputs: 893 consultations about drugs; 2,674 consultations and workshops about safe sex; 14 young people involved. Beneficiaries were involved in all project activities not only as passive recipients but active participants, thus gaining invaluable skills and experience. In addition, the services were available for young people at places where risky behaviour is quite frequent, e.g., at festivals and in clubs.
